Besseys came from Amazon NAKED!

The doorbell rang a few minutes ago and I heard the thump of a package
on the porch. By the time got to the door, the UPS was already at his
truck and there on the porch lie 4 NAKED 82" clamps! The sole box was
for the 24" free Bessey. WTF! Fearing the worse (yes, I'm a
pessimist), I drag them into the shop for inspection, thinking I'll need
to find the 1-800 number for Amazon's customer service. I inspect one
clamp...seems ok. Not bent. hmmm...whatever...look at the next
one...yeah, it's fine. Now my luck can't hold out for the next two can
it?? Inspect the third clamp...straight, undamaged. Amazing! Now I
KNOW the last clamp has got to be damaged, somehow. Look it over.
sigh. it's ok too. WTF! The last couple of tool shipments I've
received have been BEAT TO FRICKIN' HELL AND BACK, and these suckers
made it unscathed WITHOUT BEING BOXED UP??

It's a topsy turvy world.

And you guys that felt bad that Amazon wasted money on packaging can
relax, knowing they puffed up their bottom line a bit by skimping on the
packaging for my clamps. <g>

This isn't even a rant, because nothing was busted.

That you received them unboxed does not mean that they were sent
unboxed.
It may well be that the box they were in was so badly beat up the
driver
simply left it in the truck.

Do you think that reflects the quality of the shipping service, or the
quality of the Besseys?

Yesterday I received the first of 6 Bessey Clamps I ordered...

Or actualy, the 6 foot long EMPTY sonotube
that may or may not have contained a clamp at
one time. That's right. Completely empty.
Heavy secure white plastic cap on one end of the tube.
Absolutely nothing on the other end of the tube,
and absolutely empty.

Called Amazon and in minutes spoke with a nice woman
who apologized and said that they would send out a
replacement by 2-day service.

The other 5 clamps are scheduled to be delivered today.

You should have seen the welder I got from Amazon. It was a refurb, and
had been placed into a box without packing material (presumably by the
manufacturer). The thing should have been screwed to a pallet, but was
just floating around in this box.

It was a total mess. I got them to send out a new one, and it was in
even worse shape. So I pulled all the best undamaged parts together to
make one clean and new one, assembled the really messed up one, and
sent it back.

I wouldn't have put up with it if it wasn't such an outstanding deal.
225A Campbell Hausfeld stick welder for $119. Amazon ended up crediting
me $25 for my troubles, and the unit I kept looks brand new now (they
both worked fine). Great entry-level welder, lots of power.

well, I guess I'm guilty of disposing of TOO MUCH of my income. :)

I cut back in other areas, Mac: I rarely buy clothes!
And we don't replace our vehicles every 3 years like so many folks do.

LOL! You know that had crossed my mind? (that it would be damaged).
As it turned out, I've nothing to complain about and can't whine to
Amazon for a credit, like I did when my Delta sander came in a tore up
box and the instructions had fallen out. That got me a $20 credit. :)

Some of us planned ahead to avoid the angst!

My six 24" clamps were shipped in six boxes. 5 of 6 broke out of the
box corner, damaging 2 black clips. My four 31" clamps were shipped in
tubes. The one that had plastic ends on the tube arrived fine. The
three that had only clear packing tape over the ends all had clamps
hanging out.

Interestingly, I've had a number of items ship without boxes surrounding
them. When I inquired with the companies as to why, their response was
that UPS typically takes better care of that which is not packed up. YMMV!

Swing,

I've an uneven number of Bessy's too. Send me one of yours to be sure the
earth continues to rotate on its proper axis.

Four of my clamps were shipped in something resembling Sonotube.

3 of 4 of them had only TAPE as end caps, and the bar of the clamp
broke through. In other words, I got three 4 foot tubes with 4 feet
of clamp sticking out one end. <G>

The (6) 24 inchers were in individual boxes. 5 of 6 broke out of the
corner of the box.

Two of ten have broken black plastic ends.
