PORTLAND, Maine --A soldier with ties to Maine has been killed in Iraq,
according to Gov. John Baldacci's office.

Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Christopher Dostie died Friday from an improvised
explosive device attack in Baghdad, according to the governor's office.
Dostie was on active duty from Fort Campbell, Ky.

Dostie has family members living in Maine who have been notified of his
death, Baldacci said.

"This loss, during the holiday season, is especially hard to bear," Baldacci
said. "The citizens of Maine join in extending our prayers and respect to
Shawn's family, and we remember all those serving their state and country
away from home."

Shawn Dostie was not related to Maine National Guard Spc. Thomas Dostie, 20,
of Somerville, who was among 22 people killed in a suicide bomber attack in
Mosul, Iraq, in December 2004, said Baldacci spokeswoman Joy Leach.

Staff Sgt. Lynn Poulin, 47, of Freedom, was also killed in the attack in
Mosul
