H.C. Marsh - Never heard of 'em...

I inherited a Marsh wood plane from my father-in-law. It's comparable to a
Stanley No. 4. I cleaned it up and got it in good working order. Sure
looks like a Stanley/Bailey design. The sole say's "Marsh" in front of the
knob. The blade says, "H. C. Marsh, Rockford, Ill."

I just searched the 'net to see what I could find out about H.C. Marsh in
Rockford, IL. I couldn't find much.

Does anyone know anything about this company and their tools? When were
they around? When did they go out of business?

Any info is appreciated!

Thanks,

--Randy

Hey, Thanks! A big help!

You know, I did notice when I had this plane apart that the frog seemed a
little "beefier" than the Stanley's, Defiance, and other planes I've got on
my shelf.

The Old Tools Archive had what I wanted about the H.C. Marsh Company.

Thanks again,

Marsh was eventually gobbled up by the great assimilator of
the day Satanley who we all know has evolved into the
greatest garage door opener maker in the free world.

sigh...

I think it was in the 20's but don't quote me. Two of the
Marsh tools that Satanley continued to manufacture were the
No. 100 and No. 400 picture frame miter box and picture
frame miter clamp. I don't have anything else to add other
than you might want to do a search of the Old Tools group
and see what their archives might have.

This is not a link to the archive but to Tom Price's page.
It is a must read.

Not a prob Randy. Here are a couple/few links you might
want to look at. Can't guarantee anything but they aren't
half bad places to waste a day or two of your life.

A really big sigh. Stanley doesn't make garage doors. And the company they had
licensed to do so went belly up a year or two ago.

Great links, though.
