Well LOL "fix" is commonly used in place of the word "repair". By
definition fix means to attach or fasten.

I grew up in NYC. When I was in the USCG, I became good friends with a
guy from the swamps of Florida. We used to trade English lessons. I'd teach
him how to speak like a New Yorker and he'd teach me how to speak "southern".
I remember one lesson very well:
Repeat after me:
I'm a fixin' to
He's a fixin' to
She's a fixin' to
4 decades later and it still makes me chuckle. He was one hell of a nice guy,
but man, did we get into some shit together. A smart-ass New Yorker and a good
ole southern boy. That's quite a combination.

Ahhh, so when the southern people say "I'm fixin to go to the store"
They mean they are attaching/fastening to the store?

For a woman that means she's applying her face paint. Fix yourself up?
