We are a fun bunch here in Sarnia, Ontario...and *I* am NOT going to
disclose the name of the driving force behind this plan.

We gotta be honest about this: they did have Detroit at the end of the
war. Although we had Mackinack (i.e Sault Ste-Marie), the American
side of Niagara, some forts as far as Iowa and most of Maine, which
surrendered without fighting. But let's not forget Colonel de
Salaberry who with 500 French-Canadian voltigeurs and an handful of
Mohawk warriors defeated an American invading army of over 5,000 at
Chateaugauay in 1813.

While we (actually the Brits, there was only one Nova Scotia regiment
involved) burned Washington down, we couldn't capture Baltimore.

The Yanks like to celebrate the battle of New Orleans, which was
fought after the end of the war and for some strange reason propelled
Andrew Jackson to national prominence. But the Brits also took Mobile
Bay, which they abandoned after the end of the war.
---------------------------------------------

The first time I sailed across Lake Erie and found the down town park
of some of the small Villages in Ontario that dot the northern shore
line of Lake Erie (Port Stanley for example), it felt a little
strange.

In those parks were the monuments documents not only the fallen but
also those who served in the war of 1812.

Reading those names I realized that these were the enemy, men who were
heroes to their loved ones, just the same as there are similar
monuments on the US side.

Gives you a whole different outlook about war and the necessity of it.

There was a time when some Brits were buried on South Bass Island, but
eventually, they were exumed and returned to the home country.

Don't remember when that took place.

Along that same line, there is a monument in Kincardine (Lake Huron
Shore), documenting the tremendous losses suffered by that community
in WWII which the Canadians were in and dying long before 12/07/1941.

Actually, George III was very popular before his illness took hold
(and his first language was English).

It could be the balloon makers are perverts and that the moonies are simply
falling for a "Don't throw me in the briar patch" trick.

As for the complaint that the balloon cameras are a violation of privacy,
heck, there's no right to privacy in the American Constitution, let alone
the Canadian Charter. If an American citizen wants to inspect the buttocks
of Canadians, he has a right to do so.
