Bay Area sources foe hardwood

I'm a new woodworker and wonder where folks in the SF Bay Area go for wood
for their projects? Especially cherry and oak.

If you cannot plane and joint the wood, Southern Lumber is the place to go.
If you can, add Aura Hardwood Lumber and Northern Hardwoods to the
list...all in San Jose.

Actually, Northern Hardwoods closed shop about a year or more ago.
Some
of the folks that were there opened up Global Wood Sources. Here's
their URL - they're in North San Jose (880-101-237 triangle).

By appointment only, there's Baker Hardwoods in Morgan Hill. If you
like claro walnut Jim Baker's the guy to see. He has many other
types of wood though cherry isn't common in the SF Bay Area. He's got
a bandsaw mill and will cut to whatever thickness you want. Here's
the URL

If you're interested in veneers, Blair at Saratoga Tree Service
has some really nice stuff and also has some nice wood. By
appointment.
He's in Campbell

You might also do a google search for "Bay Area Woodworkers
Association
or BAWA. A member might have some suggestions.

Welcome to one of the more expensive areas for wood in the US. Just
a warning so you don't get sticker shock when you see the prices
here - especially if you start at Southern Lumber.

Aura Hardwoods, Phelan Ave, San Jose. A zillion times cheaper than
southern lumber, but doesn't have as many species.

$$$$ $$$$ way too expensive.

Aura Hardwoods in San Jose is ok, especially for
sheet goods. For the best prices, take a
day trip down to Watsonville and try Jackel.

For large claro walnut slabs and other local woods,
try baker hardwoods in Gilroy.
