About a month ago, I purchased a Delta Cabinet Saw (Not Unisaw). After
delivery, I looked at the book and discovered that you had to buy a new and
different arbor for a dado head and another still for a molding head cutter.
You coudn't even leave the longer one on for the regular blade due to it
hitting the throat when tilted. Since I hadn't assembled the saw, I decided
to return it.
I bought a Grizzly 1023SL, have it together and am happy with it and then
Delta called . . . The rep that sold the first saw at the show felt bad
about the arbor situation and said they didn't realize it because I had
bought the first one in the Midwest. They shipped a new X5 to the local
tool depot and advised me that for my trouble, they would sell me the saw
with a 52" Bies, extension table and mobile base for only about $200 more
than I paid for the other one which was about $1200.
I like the Griz but I don't think I can pass it up. Probably put store and
then put an ad in the paper to sell the Griz - can even afford to take a bit
of a hit on it. Even if it doesn't work out, Delta really made the effort
and I'll remember them for it.

Where are you and your Grizzly? Any chance you are around Atlanta?

I think Keith (Unisaw A100) said they show up from time to time on
ebay and folks get confused thinking they're getting a Uni. He calls
it a Unisaw-Lite. I believe he also said it's basically a contractors
saw in a cabinet. The trunnions and their assembly are nowhere near
the Unisaw beef.

You might take a shot at contacting the Delta rep and tell him that you
bought the Grizzly and are very happy with it, but would love to be a Delta
owner. Remind him you bought the Delta first because you wanted to own a
Delta, but couldn't live with the problem so you bought the Grizzly. Let
him know you'd love to go back to Delta, but now you have the Grizzly to
sell. See if he can work something out. Sales reps don't like situations
where their competitor took one of their customers. Nothing to lose, right?

So, you bought a Delta cabinet saw, for $1,200, and it's not a Unisaw.
What is it?

Yeah, I'm familiar with the contractor's saw in a box, but I didn't think
they made them anymore. Also, I thought they were waaay less expensive than
1200 bucks!
Thanks, Phil

That's correct - I have done so. I think they intend to give me a couple of
weeks and leave the saw on the dock for me - it's apparant that they want me
to have the saw and I would like to have it. I've even considered storing
the Griz and buying it anyway, but it involves more funds than I can spare
right now. Eeither way it shakes out, I'm very appreciative of their effort
and have told them so.

It is Delta's "Cabinet Saw" 36-730 or 731 depending upon which fence you
want. It's a saw that is made in Taiwan and is being introduced to compete
with Grizzly and Jet. It's a decent saw but the only one they make in which
the arbor actually has to be changed for dados and molding head cutters.

You might be thinking of an older version of that saw. This new one is
apparantly being re-introduced and is a 220 3hp saw but is simply their
Tawainese version. In any event, I've had a few days of working with the
Griz 1023SL and I like it allot. Guess I'll have to pass on the Unisaw deal
because I just can't afford to store the Griz.
