I have designed a portable boom box with detachable speakers (for
better sound, a key requirement for me). I am using 1/2" birch
plywood, some 6x9" coaxial speakers I got a deal on. I have a little
tripath amp to power it efficiently. Unit consists of speakers, center
electronics section.
Q: I'm wondering best way to attach speakers. I have imagined cleats
with an indexing dowel to keep it from sliding around, or a base that
goes under everything, has a back that goes behind everything, and
with a horizontal large dowel (curtain rod?) that doubles as a handle,
and could have smaller dowels act as locking pins for the rustic wood
look. That last idea would resemble sort of a vertical I beam with the
speakers fitting in the slots on sides.I'd rather not have speakers
look odd when off the unit (like if it had a C shaped hook on side for
instance).
Anyone have any ideas?
And yes, I would carry it to and from places, but not like on my
shoulder wearing disco clothes. Just a pain to go on a vacation to a
rental place and not have a nice sound system, can even be used with
movies / computers / phone mp3 / ipods, etc.
