Just a heads up.
Two years in a row now, I've gotten pneumonia during flu season. Both
times it was diagnosed as the flu until it got bad enough to put me in
the hospital.
There was a medical study mentioned on the news last night. Seems one in
20 (5%) of all patients are misdiagnosed. Half of those mistakes are
dangerous. Which is the most misdiagnosed of the dangerous ones? You
got it - pneumonia.
Be careful out there.

A few years ago, my mother's doctor (She was 101 at the time)
were having a conversation about mom who was in relatively
good health and still living alone.
He made the following comment,
"Pneumonia is the friend of the elderly".
He was referring to those in our elderly population who were
in ill health and could look forward to several more years of life
under those conditions, and how pneumonia would claim them
quickly and with relatively little pain involved.
As always, your perspective is molded by your training and
experiences.

I can't believe there's a bug out there tough enough to knock you down Larr=
y. LOL! I know what you mean - got it almost 20 years ago and dang near t=
ook me out. I don't take the flu shots or the pneumonia vaccines - but I d=
o get nervous when I get the flu (which has been almost 10 years now.)
There are three vaccines all of us old farts ought to get -- pneumonia, the annual flu shot and the shingles vaccine. I've had all three and encourage all of you to do likewise. I had pneumonia about 20 years ago and never want to go through that again.

I've had pneumonia once, walking pneumonia.. it really knocked me
down... don't know why it is walking....
They have preventitive shots now, but I have never had them...
Maybe since you are now prone to getting it, you should think about it.

I've had all 3 - I still got pneumonia :-). I've had the flu shots ever
since they made them available and they've worked pretty well.
But pneumonia can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or even fungi. The
shot only protects against common forms of the bacterial type.

So when think you're getting sick again, do you go right away to get a
blood test or is that too cost prohibitive?
