Consider BAD's behaviour during the troll attacks when he tried to
encourage everyone to join him in cross-posts to chastise inadvertent
cross-posters (and, incidentally, keep cross-posted troll threads
going).
Consider that no one knows anything about him, despite his being the
wreck's most prolific poster: no real name, no town (other than a
generic Bay Area), no profession, no real email address (munged or
otherwise), no web site, nothing to associate his posts with a real
human being. All we know is that he might have a trust fund to buy
overpriced tools.
Consider obvious and overt plagiarism - a baited hook to those
concerned about copyright if I ever saw one.
Consider off-topic responses that raise the ire of other posters (but
does give Paddy a chance to show his stuff :-)).
At first, I also got sucked in, thinking he was just a poor dumb
lonely lost soul (something like Woody, but Woody is a real person).
Then I plonked him after the moron bench stuff, writing him off as one
more arsehole who would soon leave, à la Cass and Apeturd. Later on, I
saw Tom & UA100 respond to his posts. So I unplonked him. I even tried
to help him in one of his "projects". I finally got tired of him &
plonked him again. But it's pretty hard to ignore him as he gets
quoted all the time.
I realize that many like to throw peanuts at the monkey just to see
what he does. But, please, listen to c-less:
DFTFT!
My compliments to you, whoever you are. You are good. Nowhere as good
as David Eisan and Dave Fleming in their inspired moments, but still
pretty good. You continue to get most of us to nibble at one time or
another.

Okay, now everyone in the house is asking why I roared out with laughter,
thank you Tom. I only wish I was that smart, to come up with such a troll.
It would be well beyond the order of anything I have pulled off in the past.
I just wish I had the time to post more of the weird thoughts in my head
here on the wreck. I find it good therapy to make up a good troll now and
then, subtlety is extremely important though. A bash over the head troll
isn't any fun, Two of my favourites are,
http://www.google.ca/groups?q=group:rec.woodworking+insubject:epa+insubject:does+author:david+author:eisan&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=QOzM8.258384%24t8_.5464%40news01.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com&rnum=1
And,
http://www.google.ca/groups?q=+home+depot+paint+department+group:rec.woodworking+author:david+author:eisan&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=3niN5.18833%24n9.842082%40news2.rdc1.on.home.com&rnum=1
I am sure there are more, but those two were quite fun.
David.
guess you missed the thread on plans. :) You didn't do your homework.

Luigi,
I am glad that you picked up on the reason behind what I posted, the "Recon
Troll" was not an accidental reference.
I, like you, suspect he is here to ruin the enjoyment most people get from
this forum. A lot of his posts should be in alt.home.repair (floor finishes,
crown moulding etc), a number of them are inane, the tool purchase posts
reflect a full workshop has been purchased but, other then claiming to have
made some workshop cupboards his output has come mainly from his keyboard -
a "legend in his own mind", so to speak.
If you look at his responses to challenges, he will bait, inflame, ignore -
anything other than to answer the actual question. He will introduce a
strawman argument and generally use all the tools of the troll whilst being
careful not to be overtly hostile. He will NOT engage in reasoned discussion
to explain his behaviour, his recent response to Silvan is just one example
of this, his response to Tom in this thread is another, attempting to use
humour to avoid answering the question. With the regulars, he has attacked
each one at some stage or another - Charlie, Keith, Tom, Larry and a host of
other highly valued posters. This appears to be a deliberate ploy to upset
the 'balance' of the newsgroup, and it's working. When he first came in the
group in 1 year ago, he complained bitterly at how people treated him
because of his posts. Funnily enough though, he is the first to pounce on a
newbie and tell them to 'go google', or to deride them in some way. The only
effect of this is to make the newbie want to leave - why else would he do
it?
Note that after having argued with one of the regulars he will fairly
quickly respond with some sycophantic inanity in an attempt to maintain his
audience. He is 'fishing' with them, this drains the pleasure people
generally derive from the group and some leave. Although Larry quickly
identified him as a troll, I think Larry erred by assuming immediate
plonking was the answer, not everyone will, and therefore his posts continue
to surface. The way to get rid of him is for members of the group to become
aware of what he is up to, then ignore him or stick to just the WWing side
of the posts he makes and ignore the deliberate flames he attaches as bait.
Now, Tail Gunner may be just some dumb ass somewhere who is too emotionally
immature to accept that people don't like him because of his online
demeanor, that's possible, even likely perhaps. But from our point of view,
as lurkers and contributors to this forum, it really doesn't matter, because
the ultimate effect is the same.
Dave, I know you're reading this, I invite you to jump in and engage in
reasoned debate on the matter.
Greg
ROTFLMAO!
Now THAT'S funny!
You go, Tom!

Yabbut, one pearl (or even a dozen) from 3,200 irritants is no way to
run a pearl farm.

I thought of that briefly too, but nah. Eisan's got a life, like
selling & collecting big arn, ackshally making stuff, playing with
nasty chemicals instead of getting a can of Minwax at the Borg,
keeping up with the FAQs, wife & kids, and drinking Pepsi. Besides,
when Eisan fishes, he gets hunnerts of bites and a feeding frenzy out
of one post - something our pathetic little monkey will never be able
to achieve.

I dunno. It's sorta worth it when the payoff is getting to read
things like what Paddy put up today.
Ya know, irritants are what produce pearls, that sorta thing.

I'm not entirely convinced the David Eisan and BAD ain't the same guy.
I mean, ya never see them in the same place at the same time (cf:
Clark Kent-Superman).
Having fights with himself would be just like that Canukistani craziac
- just ta throw us off.
