Tailor's Clapper and Point Presser

Here's something very easy that will likely make anybody in your life
who sews clothing and doesn't have one very happy.

I went to buy one of those things and they're close to 40 bucks. It's
about 16 inches long, an inch thick, and if I've translated the
dimensions properly (they're metric on the drawing) can come out of a
piece of 8 inch wide stock. Two pieces plus some dowels or screws or
dominos to hold them together (or you can just cut tenons).

It's used for pressing details on tailored shirts and other clothing,
so you want to make it out of something that will take a good enough
finish to not snag the fabric--the commercial ones look like red oak.

has more info on printing the pattern from a PDF file with either inch
or metric dimensions.

Daughter makes and sells custom children's clothing, so she might find
this useful. If so, it would be a nice project for the grandkid's to
learn the use of band or jig saw, drilling, or just shaping by hand with
sandpaper.

YouTube has videos on it's use and some alternate shapes.

Thanks for the idea.

10cm is 4 inches (for quick conversions assume 5cm is approximately 2in).

So 4" x 14" x 1" stock would be sufficient.

You missed a piece. The clapper is 10 x 28, the point presser is 9 x
40, so out of 4 inch stock you need more like 27 inches.
