The original Dallas Cowboy, signed a couple of months before the Dallas
franchise became an official reality. Pete Gent's quarterback character in
the novel North Dallas Forty was said to been modeled on Meredith.
But, one of my favorite anecdotes about/by Meredith was his comparative
explanation of 'commitment' and 'involvement' wherein he likened them to ham
and eggs. "The chicken," he said, "is involved. But the pig is committed."
