Two men have been charged in connection with a home invasion and
robbery at gunpoint in Hopkins, Minn.
The invasion happened late Monday afternoon at a house on the 100
block of Van Buren Avenue South.
According to the criminal complaint, 19-year-old Robert Wilford Fields
and 22-year-old Demetrius Lavell Sydnor approached the house after
spending some time milling out front.
A neighbor spotted the two push an adult female resident inside. The
neighbor heard screaming and contacted police.
According to the charges, the woman and an adult male were forced
through the house at gunpoint while they searched their belongings.
The male was struck in the face several times during the incident.
There was also an infant in a crib during the invasion.
The two adult residents were then forced to the attic of the house,
where they were restrained with hockey tape.
That's when police arrived. They took Fields at the scene, but Sydnor
leaped from a second floor window and ran toward a nearby elementary
school.
Police later found Sydnor hiding inside a portable toilet stall. They
searched him and found $550 stuffed inside his underwear, as well as a
strip of Trojan condoms. Both were confirmed stolen from the house he
and Fields allegedly invaded.
Both suspects have been charged with multiple felony counts, including
first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
