If there are no lines to get gas, there is no shortage. Again it is all
about what the market is willing to pay.

The credit card companies make that impossible for the merchant. Give a
cash discount, you can't accept our card.

Some, like Canadian Tire, get around it by using coupons, etc (ie:
CanTire Money) to non-credit card customers.

Idiot you say? At age 14 I was out riding in the dunes on my dirtbike
(125ccJawa). Figuring I would take a shortcut across a field, I came
upon an irrigation ditch which had a beefy plank across it, I'm
guessing 2x12. Not very long. I put my bike down and walked on and
jumped a little, seemed sturdy enough, so got back on my bike and
decided to take it easy across the plank.....mistake. Halfway across,
I came to the sudden realization that there was no place, on either
side of the plank, to put my feet.
Going too slow to get any stability from my bike, I decided I better
gun it and speed up as I was careening to one side and my rear tire
couldn't get any grip on the mossy, moist plank, until the knobby tire
did get a LOT traction on the edge of the plank...almost rack-and-
pinion like. The bike launched to the right, Robbie launched to the
left, into the ditch, which, as luck would have it, had only a couple
of feet of water, but a very deep, muddy bottom. I gently edged my way
to the plank, which I could barely reach and pulled myself up. And
STINK!?!? The bike made it to the edge of the ditch and was happily
idling and churning the backwheel in the same stinking muck, awaiting
further instructions. I rode that plank on the way back with a LOT
more speed.

sales so much as probably the watches under $100.

Given an inventory of every watch available which are the watches that
are going to be most wanted in inventory by persons selling out of that

One of my cars gives an instant readout for the MPG. I picked a flat
stretch of highway on my daily commute and every day drove at a different
speed to see what the effect would be. I could to 75, 70, 65, 60, but at
55, it was a danger to be on the road. I never did get a comparative
reading. Best MPG was 60.

I don't think that is the logic behind it. They screw us because they
can. Swedish booze prices are so insanely high, it has cut down on
drinking, of course the drunks now make their own.

They will pile taxes upon taxes on our backs till we finally break and
that won't be pretty. A close friend of mine is an engineer at one of
the refineries near here. His wife is an OR nurse. Her gross income,
was about the same as my buddy's tax bill last year. Ain't that a
fookin knee-slapper?

Keep a close eye on what's happening in Greece, Lew, you're looking at
the future.... and it isn't healthcare that causing all the trouble.

Link didn't help, as I don't know Dutch, searching elsewhere....

Ok, I'm wrong about the usefulness of LNG as a fuel,
I can see that it may have a place in urban areas. I don't see that
it would help cost with the cost of fuel, or that anybody would
put in the infrasturcture to make it widely available in the US.

At least not until the last drop of oil has been burned.

Autogas is actually LPG.

CNG is available, but it's MUCH less popular than LPG.

We have hybrid-electric buses here. I think they are diesel-electric,
and some CNG-electric. They are apparently very good in terms of

Never driven in the Netherlands - only been to Amsterdam & Utrecht, so
public transport & shanks' pony were fine. The motorways beside the
railways all looked spiffy and new though. Have only driven from
Berlin to Munich actually; that's my entire driving experience on
mainland Europe! I seem to remember being surprised that the Autobahn
was 2 lanes only for most of the way.

It may have been money well spent from a comfort stand point, but have you
ever really looked at what the total costs are for those soy deisel
alternative really are? Don't just look up front - look at the total costs.
People like you and your wife are the prime targets of these people. They
get you on the train, tell you that it is an energy alternative, and count
on the fact that you will not look any further into it - that you will
simply enjoy the comfort of your ride back to your car. Shame on you

AMOCO in Port Huron, 6.1 km (3.8 miles) from my house, premium 93
grade 3.87 US gallon.

ea) and still came out ahead by $ 12.00 if I had filled the car up
here in Canada with premium. Free Trip, free beer, plus 12 bucks in my

(And, yes, Lew, regular gas WILL work but I prefer to use premium,
runs cooler and keeps deposits off the hot side.) Besides, the
difference between regular and premium is far greater in price in
Canuckistan than States Side. Converted and ignoring the fact that our
dollar is worth more, Premium 92(!!) is $ 5.33 per US gallon here.)
AND we got to save some money on groceries AND some non/low fat
products we can't get over here.

We did have a bit of a laugh as we go the Meijers to buy low fat
stuff, and there, on a display was....wait for it..... cheese in a
fookin aerosol can... Ang and I had this WTF look on out faces and
mused.

I think he meant 100mi per day, not 200. It's still a lot but, AIUI, it's not
unusual for CA, or any major city. It's one reason I refused to even
interview in these places (no CA, Northeast, or FL (another reason)) a couple
of years back.

That can be the case for propane conversion which use the sort of
system where the gas is vapourised before it's sucked into the
cylinder, but as I understand it, there are now liquid injection
systems which surpass the power available from using petrol as a fuel.
Propane also has a higher octane rating, so higher compression engines

Ha ha! Yes, but it has to be VERY cold! Here in Britain, there are
many armchair experts who state with all the authority they can muster
that you cannot use a solely propane-fuelled car as it won't ignite
from cold in winter. They then look puzzled when I state that from
experience, cranking over a propane fuelled engine in minus twenty
degree Celsius temperature was no problem!

However, I completely agree that there are parts of North America
where winter starting can be a problem, but as I understand it, there
are systems in place to deal with this - similar to block heaters,
etc. The average Brit just can't comprehend a really cold winter!

Maybe the US is responsible at least partly, but not for the reasons you're
discussing. The US consumes the largest amount of oil in the world by almost
3x the amount of the second largest user which is China. I wonder
hypothetically if the US stopped using oil altogether, would the glut of oil
on the world market cause a price reduction by the other oil producing
countries.

If an engine is properly converted to use propane, it can be well
worthwhile. Canadians, at least in BC, do this - none of this half-
arsed 'dual fuel' bullshit that we tend to get in the UK, where the
engine isn't tuned properly for either fuel, and therefore suffers!

The other benefit of Propane, as someone else has stated, is that the
engine tends to stay cleaner for longer.

Wonderful area. I've stayed in Feisole a couple of times. My
favorite restaurant in the world is only about 10 km from Rosano in
Montebeni.

And - to be fair... I do not follow these things and could not tell you
about all the other costs. I only understand that there are indeed other
costs and that these alternatives do not net the savings that would at first
seem apparrent.

Arco, a unit of BP, operates the only cash and carry game in town.

They basically sell 87 octane at about $0.20/gal less than the
competition.

Want to use a credit card, fine, just add about $0.50 surcharge.
