Fair price on Pomermatic 1970-80s 8in jointer?

I have an appointment to see one at auction tomorrow.
It is in a basement and no promise to help me move it
was made by the auctioneer (company). Credit for
locating it goes to Cedar Sonny! I'll try to find out
if the infeed/outfeed table is removable. Certainly,
it must be...

Thanks,
Bill

For serious bidders, a price of $600 to $700 is not surprising. That was a=
n older model 60, so I would have thought it would have gone for at least $=
100 less. Mine is maybe 10 years newer than that one and I paid $800 for m=
ine about 15 yrs ago.

These days, if I'd have to lug it from a basement, as that, I would include=
that labor charge in my overall costs for getting it, hence that was what =
I based my questimate on. When I was younger, looking for tools, I wouldn'=
t consider that kind of labor charge. Back then, all my labor for myself w=
as free.... because I could do it with no trouble. These days, it's "labor=
" to carry any 8' board across the shop.... unless there's a good Cajun Fre=
nch song on the radio, then the trip is easier ( http://www.floydsrecordsho=
p.com/ - wait for the load and something will play).

I have pretty much the same thing, maybe older. I paid $300 and felt I got =
it for less than half it's true value. See them got for $700 all the time. =
Yes the tables would be removable but don't do it. Major hassle to reassemb=
le correctly. That is why I got a deal but I figured it out. Just use some =
leverage or pay pro movers.

Yep! And if your game, for $6 a month ($60/year) you can listen online to=
KBON 101.1 (The sauce picante of radio, they claim. LOL), especially on Sa=
turday mornings, until noon, there is strictly French music. At other time=
s, there is a mix of other varieties of south LA music.

$400 to $450 (maybe $500) minus any costs for removing it from the
basement. If I had to remove it, my max bid may be $200 - $250.

A fair market price is the price ($400 - $450) on a showroom floor,
ready to load (with seller help) into your truck.

If you do buy, check to see if the manuals are available. The owner
obviously kept everything in good order and I'd suspect he has the
manuals handy, also.

...

A PM Model 60 is $2K or greater new; for one in good shape half or less
of that isn't anything to feel badly about.

A third is robbery, moving or no imo (not that I'm against bargains and
at auction, stuff brings what it brings, but as far as value, it's
certainly worth well over $4-500 if that's what Sonny means).

If he means 4-500 under new, that's a little high for used equipment in
general but again, that's not to say it's not well worth the money as
far as utility, only that in general the supply is such the demand just
won't bring that.

It was a 1979 model, and it looked very nice having lived much of it's
life in a basement. Two guy bidded it up to $575 + 10% + 7% sales tax.
It would have been a pain to get it up the stairs too, not to mention
the rest of the trip.

I picked up some sharpening stones and 3 different kinds of 7' hardwood
boards.

LOL ... In my shop, Feufollet singing "Jolie fille" makes everything in
the shop easier to pick up. :)
