If you're going to do that at least try to calculate the following here
in sci.physics. (Not responsible for other groups, or for
that matter C|N>K or other similar syndromes.)
[1] The bladder of a normal adult male human holds about
300 cc (0.3 l). Measure how long it takes to empty it
in a standard toilet, and thereby calculate the flow
rate, assuming it's entirely full. You may substitute
for the standard toilet if that be your wish but a
description of the actual receptacle isn't necessary
for the purpose of the report on this particular
experiment, although a gradated measuring cup may be
helpful should you actually wish to check the above
measurement. I would recommend high-impact plastic,
in case you drop it.
[2] Measure the radius of your ureter. (I'll leave you
to figure out the details; I'm not a proctologist.) You
can then compute thereby the flow velocity,
cross-correlating it with the height of the flow as you
lie in your bathtub, which is probably easier anyway.
Assume g = 9.805 m/s/s. Make sure to wash afterwards.
[3] The temperature of human urine should be about 35-40 C;
room temperature is about 20-25 C, depending
on personal comfort level, weather, and heating
efficiency. Estimate thereby how much additional
heat there is in that toilet bowl before flushing.
You may assume urine == water for the purposes of
this computation. (I don't know the solubility or
specific heat of urea.) If you wish, you can measure
the temperature of the urine with a thermometer; make
sure to wash *it* afterwards.
[4] The human bladder can be modeled as a bag surrounded by
musculature. Estimate the pressure and/or force
exerted on the outside by said musculature. You may
assume a uniform pressure and a motility or viscosity
close to that of pure water.
[5] Assume that your 300 cc of urine is the result of
eating pure glucose, and thereby compute the amount
of heat gained from the reaction producing the water
therein. You may again assume urine == water for the
purposes of this calculation. (The actual amount of
liquid, water or otherwise, is of course far more
complex to compute. Note that the carbon is also
expelled through the lungs, and urea requires nitrogen,
which is not supplied by pure sugar. There's also
the issue of sweating.)
Despite this being cross-posted to a number of photog
groups and a woodworking enthusiast's area, I would not
recommend you posting a picture of any of your results,
constructing such things as a wooden toilet bowl, or
capturing the sound on tape. Besides, there's already a
flush.au or flush.wav, erm, floating around the Internet.
(A trick way back in the mid-80's was to command a Sparc
to "flush" remotely, playing the sound. I forget the
details but the idea wouldn't be too difficult on Linux
boxes today, given a data file and proper permissions to
the sound device /dev/audio or /dev/dsp.)
Have fun, but do remember to wash up.
