Hello all, I need to know if any company stills makes or just does make adapters
with tapered squared shanks that fit in old braces, I wouldn't mind using my braces
with sockets for lag bolts in woodworking, so I would need such an adapter... are
there any such thing out there on the market? Is it a common part?
TIA,

I thought I had my Dad's, but Mom corrected me one time when I was
visiting at home, it's her mothers, as is the set of Irwin augers
in the wooden box with the $18.50 price on it. she got 10% off
according to Mom though.
I also have a few of my own, from Flea Markets here and there.

Seems like a heck of a long time.... but It has been almost 10 years

Why not just buy a speed wrench
at your local auto parts store.... a Speed wrench looks just like a
Brace.. so spotting one is not difficult...

You're looking at it from the wrong direction. Rather than
looking back the timeline, remember that His Dad had his own, and
the Grad Dad had his own also. You've got your own. Look toward
the future.

Yeah that's cool, thanks. But if anyone else knows, I do want to know of any

Wow. That's a pretty strange notion of foreplay, even for
a sWisconsonite. Does St. Suzan know of this Dawn woman?
OBWW: My brace is from my paternal grandfather's tool collection.
I also have a toolbox he built along with sundry other tools
(he was a mechanic by trade, not a woodworker).

I can read, thank you. My point was that six-sided adaptors can be used as
well, and they're easier to find.

I just caught a Millers Falls 731 12", a bunch of auger bits and flat screwdriver
bits for $11 on eBay... this brace is a REAL tool, man I swear...! It is really
impressive, and I didn't have a realistic idea about them until I handled it.

He could swing by HF and pick up the set of 3 (1/4, 3/8, 1/2")
hex-driven square drive adapters for $1.99. They'll fit the
standard high-quality ancient brace. (Go for it, Varky!)

Cool! Pretty liberated lady for her time....
My dad had a sign shop and had several braces, which I had a chance to
get when he died... out of 4 kids, nobody wanted them!
I wish like hell i would have taken them now, and the bits, etc.,
instead of getting nostalgic and buying a used one on Ebay this year..

Google the words Bell System Brace or Bell System (insert
name of almost any hand tool here).
'Twas a time when you needed to work for the company to have
one of these and then came many retirements (and good old
'Merican pilfering of course).
sigh...

There are _loads_ of six-sided adapters available, that would also work for
this purpose. They're included with many nutdriver or socket sets, and you
should have _no_ trouble finding one at any home center.
