So I'm kicking back with my coffee, looking forward to enjoying a
little wreck-y goodness, and what does Google groups show me...a
screen (or two) full of postings full of crude sexual and racial
comments, slurs against some pretty fine members of this group, yada
yada yada. Yeah, I know. They're trolls. Yeah, I know. Ignore
them, they'll go away. Yeah, I know. Don't say anything about their
postings, it'll just get worse.
To quote the dude from the movie Network: "I'm mad as hell, and I'm
not going to take it any more." I don't mind OT posts, they're just
the random babblings of my e-friends. But this crap's gotta go. So
who do we, as a group and as individuals, complain to when we see this
spam abuse?
And yeah, I know, there's not a single "complain to" body that manages
internet news groups. It's just that this really p*sses me off, and I
had to get it off my chest. There...I feel better. Now, to head over
to rec.music.country.western and weed through all the liberal-bashing
posts that have nothing to do with c/w music... (C:

67.31.3.178 is level13.com if you'd like to report him there.
As for using a newsreader behind a firewall, I suspect that most people
here are running a firewall. Load a copy of an OLD Netscape and use it
as a newsreader. You can toggle the View of the Headers from normal to
all and back easily and read the header info as you wish.

I reported him to both for several of his posts. Maybe we can make his
life as difficult as The Puppy Squeezer's. Got to say though, a throw
away .38 seems like a waste, rope is reusable and environmentally
friendly.

Right idea, right bullet - wrong aim. Report it to google!

Some traceroute experts keeping identifying the carrier as the problem.
Level 3 is a big carrier as is UUNET and several others. The carrier is
just the "conduit". You must hold the ISP accountable.
Many argue that holding ISPs accountable is ineffective and you have to go
to the next level, the carrier. Maybe so, maybe not - but it's arguably on
the same plane as holding the landlord accountable for what goes on in room
32A.

That's not a solution.
Using Microsoft's LOOKOUT is probably the worst advise.
Beside, if you use GOOGLE, you have to use the web version of news groups.
What would you do if someone kept calling you on the telephone and annoying you?
Would you change the locks and continue to put-up with the intruder?
One of the reasons these people continue to post crap is because they can.
They know, that no one can touch them. That seems to be the problem.

Sorry. Make that Eyetalyun/Sicilyun Fund. We don't
care what nationality/brotherhood theyse is from
as long as the spammers are no longer spamming.

Yeah, good point. And after a couple days of contemplation, I don't
mind the troll-wars so much now. It's just that it was (and is...) a
really bad week, and the trolls were the straws that broke this
camel's back.
On the upside, I've decided to grant myself a vacation day tomorrow to
spend some time down in the basement woodworking, so there! (C:

They let you read Usenet at work! Just consider yourelf
lucky and ignore the stuff you don't want. A lot of folks
would kill to have a job that lets them read Usenet at work.

get a real newsreader and you can filter out the crap.

I don't know how effective it is, but you can also report it to the
"X-Complaints-To:" email address in the message header. Here's the full
header from one of his posts:

Near the bottom is the X-complaints line. Just forward a copy of the
entire message and header to the email address indicated.
My feeling is that if enough complaints are sent by enough offended
people then it'll more than likely get some response by the site -
likely just cancelling the account, of which the twit can open a new
one, but at least he has to expend a little effort to get back to
twitting.

That's skidoos, Tom. You just send them to me. I'll arrange to get
them dropped off in the bush a couple of hundred miles from nowhere,
naked at 40 below, with just one match. Or, if it's not cold enough,
rub them with bacon fat (favourite grizzly food) and tie them to a
tree.

Careful there, remember that the commissioner of the RCMP (the
