I didnt make this up, this is the official number for Obama care. Need
health insurance? The Obama administration has you covered. Simply dial
1-800-FUCKYO to reach the next available health-care provider. Far from
being a mistype, thats the official number that health and Human
Services wants Americans to dial when seeking health care. Obamacares
national call center really did list its number as 1-800-318-2596 . So
its easy to see the people that designed this atrocity knew they were
Fu**ing us

A recent test of rates under free market vs the new health care, shows
that the rates under the health care are higher than the free market.
Now that certainly (free-market) doesn't cover those that ins companies
avoid, but it shows what everyone already knows. The government programs
always cost more than free market.
Also the waste at every level raises the costs to the tax payer too.
Everyone puts their hand in the till.
So get real, the idea is good, but unfortunately we can't afford it.
We need to get our house in order.
Same with our other programs that are out of control.
Our congress men and women, should be going through the laws, and
dismantling programs that were passed and no longer working. Some of
these require spending money where there aren't issues any longer. Get
rid of all of these and maybe we might be able to start getting our
house in order. But we are so far from it.
I have 4 more years on my mortgage, have been paying every bill on
time.. But my country doesn't feel that they have to live within there
means.
I love this country, but I don't like our goverment, they are not our
friend. They have not earned my trust. They have repeatedly crossed the
line. We are supposed to be a free nation, but the goverment keeps
taking away our freedoms. All for whose benefit, ours or theirs?
They have manipulated things that they don't understand and have made it
better for companies to not hire anymore, to hire temp workers, or hire
offshore people. That's not good for America. The Govt is not good for
America. Be afraid , be very afraid.

Just wait and see what happens if the government remains shut down.

I'm not for government being as involved as it already is in our lives and
the Obamacare Is just one more straw but the mentality of those hung up on
a telephone number that is close to something that they imagine that it

I will say that with a "metal" plan, you basically choose your deductible
and all plans covering every thing can lower costs. If the care provider
does not have to employ staff to handle the hundreds of different
coverages, apply for payment, get rejected, and rebill the patient, which
in many cases may be long gone, he is going to save money. Collecting
medical charges from insurance companies is big business and should be an
unnecessary one, IMHO.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is other than to demonstrate
the type mentality that is fighting and is against Obamacare. With this
display of ignorance it is no wonder that Obamacare became law.
And if you think that this makes the Obama camp appear incompetent, look
at who got the law passed.

Simple minds at work here and it would be funny if it actually did not

Nonsense. It's a power grab by the federal government on issues the

From news reports, only 17% of the government was "shut down." This
did not include the military, which remains fully operational.
The Republican-led House has sent numerous bills to the Senate to keep
even non-essential services funded and operational. It's the
Democrat-led Senate shooting those bills down that are responsible for
the so-called "shutdown." That, and a President who actually spends
more money to keep people out of parks, monuments and the like than it
took to keep them open in the first place, in order to make the process
seem as painful as possible.

As far as healthcare. Our system is out of control, but it got that way
by political manipulation. Free market is not part of this at all.

Only part of the government is shut down. The part that the public sees
the most. It is the school budget mentality. If a town cannot get the
school budget passed, they have to make cuts. If they cut the library
and janitors, no one cares and no progress is made. Shut down the
athletic program and parents are protesting and will vote to pass the
budget.
In this case, National Parks, monuments, and the like are used to incite
the masses. Meantime, both sides are making a poor attempt at showing
their strength and yes, making the village idiots look good.

I'm all for contracting government... but quite frankly, some of the
"non-essential" workers make material contributions to projects that are
being carried out by not-for-profit and for-profit non-governmental
organizations. I'm involved as a volunteer with a couple projects that are
geared towards improving tourism and facilitating job creation in the
region. I bring a skill set and discrete knowledge to the projects as do
others whom include Federal, state, local government and not-for-profit
employees. It was rather disheartening to loose the participation of a
furloughed Federal worker whom has brought expertise and resources to these
projects. Here is a copy of his auto generated response to an e-mail:
"Because of the federal government shutdown, I have been furloughed. I
cannot check email messages until the government re-opens."
There is a long list of governmental agencies and positions that it would be
nice to see scaled back... starting with a whole bunch of Czars appointed by
the president as well as others that seem bent on tripping up law abiding
citizens to meet a political agenda. But there are lots of workers that make
a material contribution to our society. As such I've got mixed emotions
about the shut down...

There is another component of the ACA pricing that is often overlooked...
the ACA has minimum standards in regards to what services are covered under
the plans. Those minimum standards are significantly more inclusive than
plans formerly offered in many of the states so there are higher premiums in
those states. In states like NY, that has had strong statutory and regulator
driven coverage standards for years, the ACA rates are on par with the
existing plans (though the individuals out of pocket cost is affected by the
subsidies). The young and healthy are the ones facing higher premiums in
places like NY as they are subsidizing the old and sick... if the young and
healthy don't sign up the plan fails. So in some eyes there is still hope
that ACA fails... not sure how that will work out.

Well, my point would be about the legitimacy of the federal govt being invo=
lved in such activities at all. I don't think they should be. Do these prog=
rams maybe help the local economy? Sure, maybe they do. But the taxes and s=
ystems to support this should be local. Never more than the state but count=

Jeez!!!!! Eliminate the 1 and you do not get the connected to any one.
So a bunch of people have been mislead.
They may as well have made up something else with a different mix of

They did not mess anything up, you have to use some imagination and
leave out the number 1 to formulate a misspelled word.
The sad thing here is that those that oppose Obamacare are jumping all
over this and it does not pan out as advertised.
If you want to point out the problems with Obamacare you should at least
look some what intelligent.

Yep. Sometimes people want healthcare they don't need. When I was a paramedic,
we called them "frequent flyers". But the discussion is whether people have to
forego healthcare (necessary or otherwise) because they can't pay for it. I
know for a fact the answer is "yes".
>If a person truly need medical help (cancer heart attack, stroke, etc.)
>they get it and the quality is the same insured or not.
So you think an uninsured heart attack patient is going to get a transplant?
Medicaid in some states will cover it, some won't. If they aren't eligible for
Medicaid, they better be able to find $400,000.
Then there is the in-between stuff. Not a hangnail, not acutely life
threatening. Control of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, etc. My county has a
county hospital, that I pay taxes for, that will treat that stuff. If you don't
live in such a county, too bad. But, again, that hospital meets the textbook
definition of "socialism".

You'll need to be more specific. All I can find about her on that date, is she
voted for TARP the first time, and it failed. The connection to reneging on
mortgages fails me.

Thanks, I lived through it the first time. Yes, lots of people got loans they
couldn't afford. Lots of mortgage brokers wrote lots of crap loans and sold
them to Wall Street that bundled them up, got ratings agencies to assign fantasy
ratings to them, and sold them to people who believed a AAA rating was a AAA
rating. The majority of this activity was private, not government.
But the promotion of housing, including over-leveraging at Fanny, Freddie, and
the Wall Street houses was a bi-partisan disaster going back well before
Clinton.
Still, lead me through the chain of events. Pelosi votes for TARP, which fails,
then what leads to someone's mortgage being reneged?

The Bush $8000 credit, extended by Obama.

I did read what you said. The original poster was clearly talking about average
life expectancy since what is used in those rankigs.
You then said the US life expectancy peaked 30 to 40 years ago. You went on to
say that maximum age one lives has not changed in 200 years. If you did not
mean average life expectancy in the first figure, you are contradicting
yourself.

I understand that some people are opposed to Obamacare, but there seems
to be a large number that are frothing at the mouth over it. I wonder if
the same was true when Social Security started?
I'm not overly impressed with Obamacare, but here's some facts:
1. The US is the only industrial nation without some form of national
health care.
2. The largest cause of personal bankruptcies in the US is health care
bills.
3. The US spends more per person on health care than any other nation.
And a larger percentage of GDP.
4. In spite of this, the US ranks 33 in life expectancy, just above Cuba.
5. US drug costs are the highest in the world. And the pharmaceutical
industry has the highest profit margins of all industries.
If you're happy with these facts, just sit back and relax. If you have a
better solution than Obamacare, please let us, and your elected
representatives, know what it is.
Obamacare is a long way from a solution, but it's all that could get past
the lobbyists from the drug companies, insurance companies, for-profit
hospitals, etc..

I do not have the statistics to comment on this. But I know that there
are a lot of people who were given home loans, which pelosi then reneged
on, who are going bankrupt and their home foreclosed. So I question
this statistic.
>

Health care is a broad category. It covers everything from band aids to
MRI machines. In the US, if you go to a doctor with what you precieve
as a problem, you are going to get some sort of drug. The doctor must
protect himself for mall practice suits.
Also many things that the average person does not consider health care
items are medical devices and drugs. Many beauty products, medicated
soaps, etc are included in Health care.

There are many factors in this simple statement. Drugs are freely
available in the US, and many similar items. US peaked on life
expectancy 30 to 40 years ago, third world countries are now just coming
to the peak.
I hope you have not been taken in by the hype that man could live to be
130 years old. If you remove child deaths and women who die in child
birth, the maximum age that one lives has not changed in the last 200
years. If we were seeing an actual increase in the life span you would
see the maximum increasing as the average increase.
> 5. US drug costs are the highest in the world. And the pharmaceutical

And to solve the high cost of health care, obama placed a 2.3% tax on
all medical devices, A medical device is any instrument, dressing, etc
that is used in a hospital, doctor's office, or ambulance, that is not a
drugh. Every thing from band aids to MRI Machines.
In addition to the 2.3% medical device tax, there are many hidden
increases on doctor, hospitals, and manufacturers that are raising
medical cost.

Have you been able to get a copy of the health care act to read from the
social democrats? Remember it had to be passed before you could read it.

You are correct that the 1 does not have any letters associated with it, so
strictly speaking, it does not spell out. That does not change the fact
though, that typically businesses that get phone numbers typically
scrutinize the digits and the associated letters for just this kind of
thing. I spent a lot of years in that business and I am very familiar with
how closely businesses look at the possible (mis)spellings of numbers that
they might chose from. This one is at the very least - funny. Apparently
someone didn't look very closely at this.

There are whole departments that the social democrats consider necessary

There are other departments that only a couple of percent of the

shutdown is more strict than in normal times. However, even two to three
times the couple of percent of employees need for normal operation what
are the other 50% doing.
Do we really need a Transportation department spending billions to

CUT THEM AND CUT THE NATIONAL DEBIT. IT HAS DOUBLED SINCE OBAMA BECAME

The point is that there are many health care professionals in the US
starting with the paramedics who respond to emergencies, on through all
of the other steps in the health care system. The druggist is a health

Many people run to the doctor with a hangnail, or a sneeze or just
because they want the attention of a doctor. (or health professional ;-) .
If a person truly need medical help (cancer heart attack, stroke, etc.)
they get it and the quality is the same insured or not.
This medical care is paid for in many ways. Some times in the form of
assistance from the drug and medical device companies, some times it is
a fee attached to those who are insured, some private social agencies
(Cancer society, and hundreds of others). and some government fund.

Pelosi renege on the home loans on September 28, 2008. In the next 14
days the market fell over 3000 points. The economy has never recovered.
Most of the derivatives that people get all bothered about were
instruments backed by the poorly qualified loans that were started under
Clinton, and supported by by the social democrat members of Congress
until the markets descended to about 6500 points. This was in spite of
being warned of the large problems these under qualified loans was
creating in the financial industry for several years before pelosi and
September 28. Go to the library and read the old newspapers.
Those same under qualified loans are still being offered and promoted by
the current administration. Our neighborhood is still suffering from
obama $8000 credit for first time buyer. Over 10% of our large addition
have, or are in foreclosure. There are 5 house out of 40 on our street
that are currently in foreclosure.

I am saying that there are many products that are sold today that are
consider medical devices, or drugs as define by the Code in Federal
Register that are high luxury items in other countries. Your deodorant
soap is control as a drug. Many cosmetics are consider drugs, All of
the hand sterilants that appear everywhere where food is handled,
sunscreens, and the list goes on and on. If you asked a resident of
some countries about these devices they would have no idea what they
are, but they are counted as medical expenses.
By regulation, our government has expanded Health care items to the
ridiculous.

Please re read what I said. I did not mention average life expectancy. I
am talking about the absolute ages of our longest living people. While
the average age was much less, 200 years ago there were people living
for over 100 years, the same as it is today. (While not my only source
there are several form the early 1800's in may family that lived to be
over 100.)
If the life span were truly increasing you would see the oldest ages
increasing as the average life span were increasing. the age of people
who live the longest has not increased. If you read the old newspapers
you will find over 100 year olds in the papers of the 1700's, 1800's
1900's and 2000's

Good point. I suspect you'd be hard pressed to find a number that

Now is the time your Congressman needs your input. The social democrats
have dug in their heels and are saying no to everything causing the
government to shutdown. You elected you congressman to go to Washington
because you thought he would best express your views to Congress.
DON'T LET HIM DOWN NOW. CONTACT HIM AND TELL HIM YOU SUPPORT HIS EFFORTS
to bring control to an out of control government. We can not continue
this level of spending that increased the government debt 100% in five
years, 8 trillion to over 16 trillion today. If this rate continues, it
will be 32 trillion in the next five years nearly twice the size of our
economy.

Those minimum standards are things like maternity coverage for 60 year
old women, on other foolish items.
Insurance, is like every thing else in life you should be allowed to
chose your coverage. If you are 20 you do not need nursing home
coverage. If you are a male you do not need maternity coverage.

It is quite obvious that the people who would have checked for poor

I absolutely do not defend or approve of Obama or the health care system.
What burns me is that the government is shut down for no good reason and
the only ones that are going to suffer because of the shut down are the
people that the government clowns represent.
You don't fight a war with guns loaded with blanks and like the current

We tend to think of nursing homes as being for "old" people but there are
often "young" people there convalescing from accidents or illness. Breast
cancer is typically thought of as a female malady but males also suffer it.
Maternity coverage is generally utilized by women of child bearing age. So
yes, while these types of services are listed as covered services in the
plans the actuarial calculations used to set premium rates take into account
the odds that individuals of a given gender and age would need the services.
They are not priced as if everyone needs or will utilize the service.
In very simple terms the anticipated total expense for a service is divided
by the total number of lives covered and the cost shared by all... with the
total premium based on the sum of the shared costs for all services. In
short, that is the premise behind health insurance. ACA in theory increases
the number of young healthy plan holders which should then lower the average
utilization expense and thus lower the premium for the older and sicker
folks. If the young healthy folks don't come to the party the premiums
collected will not cover the expenses and rates will rise in the future.
That is where the penalties come in to encourage the young healthy (and
other) folks to participate.
Regarding choice, the consumer has the option of picking their metal...
Silver, Gold, or Platinum coverage. While the underlying services covered
are the same the out of pocket for claims submitted varies. As such a
healthy young person may feel that Silver coverage is the right level for
them as they don't anticipate having high utilization and thus will face
little additional out of pocket. A sick older person may rationalize that
paying higher premiums for Platinum coverage will be more than off set by
lower out of pocket expenses related to utilization. In that sense people do
have a choice. Whether they can make a rational choice under ACA (or before
ACA) and whether they can pay for it are other issues.
Provider reimbursement rates for commercial (vs. Medicare/Medicaid) is one
thing that ACA failed to address... There is wide variance in prices for
similar services and the uninsured and those with non-HMO plans can end up
with huge out of pocket bills if they go to one hospital vs. another for the
same service.
Should ACA exist and will it work? The jury is still out on that... maybe
they'll fix all the technological problems and maybe the young and healthy
will come to the party... or not.

This is flat not true. Many people go without medication or doctor's visits
because they can't afford it. The law requires hospitals that receive federal
money provide emergency care sufficient to "stabilize" the patient. But that's
all. To a medical professional, "stabilize" means the patient is not getting
worse. They may or may not be getting better.
Even so, who pays for this care? The taxpayers, the paying patients, and their
insurance companies. This "no one goes without care" argument is often cited
by opponents of Obamacare, but it ignores the socialism involved.

I'm not sure how this is relevant. Are you saying other countries don't count
that stuff or that we spend as much as 10% of our GDP more on that stuff than
other countries? See http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.XPD.TOTL.ZS which

Again, not true in several dimensions. US life expectancy did not peak 30 to 40
years ago, it is still increasing. Take a look at
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0005140.html. For example, 50 y/o white male
life expectancy is still increasing, going from 26.1 years in 1990 to 29.1 in
2004. That also removes child deaths and child birth deaths from the figures,
although the full set of tables shows life expectancy increasing for everyone of
every age.
But you are right that declines in child deaths and child birth deaths are major
contributions to overall life expectancy.
