Major problem. While we're on the subject, does anyone know the status
of the Nauga? At one time, their hydes were used to cover all manner of
furniture and upholstery. Are they now extinct? Is this another
attempt at Republican bashing?

I've got several rolls of naugahyde in my basement. My dad worked at the
plant where it was made, and brought home several end rolls. One of
those items you can't find an immdediate use for, but can't throw away. :)

Limited assortment of colors to choose from with formaldehyde.
Naugahyde is a brand name of vinyl, and by the way, vinyls have come a
loooooong way in the last 30 years.

Thanks, Ed. I remember Naugahide, but I always wondered where they came up
with that name.

I am an upholsterer. Do you know how many people can't say or remember
Naugahyde and ask me to cover their truck seat in "formaldehyde". Quite a
few. Especially in the small community where I started out.

And for those that still may not have a clue, Naugahide brand of imitation
leather was invented by US Rubber (later UniRoyal). The plant was in
Waterbury CT on the banks of the Naugatuck River.

Your dad must have been a brutal man. Do you know how many Naugas gave their
life just so he could roll the hides? Do the right thing and take them back
to the forest so young Naugas will have comfort.

They may be extinct for the common population but the Navy has entire herds
of Naugas in Mechanicsburg, Pa. That's the place they store everything and
considering how much stuff we cover in Nauga it only stands to reason that
we have our own supply.
