Jim,
When I was there a couple of years ago, we went to a Laser Tag place in
an industrial park at 6330 S. Pecos Road. In that same park, there was
a place that looked like it rented space to woodworkers. It was closed
when we went there, so I didn't actually get a chance to check it out
:-(, but it looked like a big, well-equipped place. I'd be willing to
bet that, if you dropped by, they'd be able to tell you all about WW in
LV. Heck, they might even let you play for a while!

Woodworkers Emporium on Arville near Russel and they have one in
Henderson on Stephanie? Hardwood suppliers include Austins and Rugby.
Rugby is around the corner from Woodworkers Emporium on Arville. They
have decent prices for this area (no trees within 100's of miles
except palm trees and I'm not sure if they are classified as
hardwood!)
Allyn
Thanks Allyn. I wasn't aware of Rugby, SWMBO doesn't let me out much. I'll
check em out..

About 50 miles away is some very interesting looking Bristlecone Pine.
I would like to get some but the BLM discourges people from taking it.
Palm is not really a tree. Its trunk is fiberous with no growth rings.
I've lived in Las Vegas for over 35 years. If you find any good hardwood
suppliers while you are here, let me know...

This question is begging for politically incorrect responses, but I'll
refrain hehe <vbg>

There are no stupid questions.
There are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

mustang ranch????? get your tools tuned up real nice there. um so i
here ! :-]
When I was there on business, we couldn't find anything really worth while
that was related to wood but my partner wanted to see Hoover dam - so we
went. Took the Engineers tour and enjoyed it. It's a good bit of walking
but worth every step in my estimation.

You'll be close enough to drive on up to Area 51 where I understand
they have MDF light enough to be lifted by a normal person and capable
of being stained in such a way as to match cherry exactly.
This is obviously alien technology.
I think I heard it on Art Bell.
Maybe O'Reilly.

You can get wood at the Gentlemen's Clubs.

Yes, it is. So is the boat ride around Lake Mead after. Educational and
relaxing. Before heading for home sure to get your wife a treat from Ethel
M's candy store.
Ed
Having been to Vegas 4 times, I don't why it took us until the 4th time
to go inside the M&M store on the Strip. What an amazing, fun
store--colorful and a bit wacky. And just when you think you've seen
the whole store, look around and spot the escalator that goes up to yet
another floor. A think there are 3 or 4 floors. The "bag your own
M&M's" is a bit of a rip off at $8/lb, but it's fun to mix your own from
colors I'd never seen M&M's come in before...
...and then there's the Coca-Cola store next door with lots of nostalgic
goodies to view like the old ice water Coke machines where you lift the
lid and pluck your sody outta the water...when Cokes came only in green
recyclable bottles...back when Hostess Cupcakes were a dime. I still
remember the day when I walked down to the neighborhood store for my
cupcake fix and the guy behind the counter said "that'll be 12 cents".
What?? They were a dime!! overnight they went up 20 percent. Welcome
to the land of free enterprise.
ah, Memory Lane--what a trip! :)

My kind of guy. In the capital city of T&A, and you want to see if there's
a good woodworking store nearby.

I took this tour a few years back, and also enjoyed it.
Still have the hat.
Unfortunately, it is no longer offered due to security concerns!?! :(

Have you looked at Rugby near Arville and Russel? FWIW they seemed to
have a better selection than Austins did when I was looking at them.
I've gotten some nice walnut and northern red oak at decent prices.
Allyn
if that is the tour where you get to keep the light blue plastic
hard-hat and see the generators, my wife and I took that tour. We'd
been to Hoover a couple of times before we sprung for the tour. It was
worth every dime. I got a bunch of excellent pictures (35 MM and video)
to remember it all. Watched the making of the dam video--amazing how
quickly it was built and all the ingenuity it took to get the job done
in that Godforsaken place.
For scenery, Red Rock is a fun place to tour, just east of Vegas.
