NORWAY, Maine -- Another Maine soldier has died in Iraq.
Army Sgt. Corey Dan, of Norway, was killed Monday in Iraq. He was stationed
at Fort Campbell and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division.
Dan left for his second tour in December on the same day his son was born.
He never got to see the boy.
His grandmother, Sharon Bouchard, said Dan, 22, had re-enlisted for another
four-year term last summer. She said he intended to go to college after
leaving the military with the goal of becoming a police officer.
The circumstances of his death are unclear. But The Associated Press
reported that a soldier was among more than 15 people killed in violence on
Monday.
Lynda Knowlton, who taught Dan in a law enforcement class at Oxford Hill
High School, said it's important that people know what kind of person he
was.
She told News 8, "What a fantastic kid this was. What a good, caring,
Christian human being - and that he was doing what he was doing and believed
in what he was doing."
She added, "He loved people. He got along with everyone. Everyone who knew
him could love him. He was always there for you."
Dan is the second casualty in the 101st with ties to Maine. Sgt. Shawn
Dostie, whose parents live in Lewiston, was killed by a roadside bomb in
December.
