This weekend, I moved to a new house. Currently, my biggest machine is
a delta contractor's saw. In anticipation of the move, I built a
little mobile cart for the table saw. Took a look at the wheels on
most mobile bases and visited home depot. I'm likely to be in this
house for a while, but could easily move again in the future. Here's
what I learned:
2" diameter wheels are nowhere near big enough. I ended up being
high-center with my mobile cart at the top of the ramp. Also, they
caused approach angle problems when getting on the ramp. Which lead to
observation #2.
Bolt the mobile base to the tool somehow. The table saw came off the
base a total of three times. Once while loading, once in the truck
(must have bounced off), and once unloading.
I think I'll remove the metal legs and make a cabinet type thingie with
drawers a built-in router table, and dust collection... with 5"
diameter wheels.
