Hello All,
I am quite miffed as I write this. SWMBO got me a Rigid 14" bandsaw
last year for Christmas. Around February I checked online to see the
cost of a 6" riser block for this saw. It was listed at around $50.
I just got off the phone with Rigid ( I had to call b/c the website
accesory section was not working), and the riser block now cost a
whoppin $ 137.00 !! It has almost tripled in price. The person on
the phone had no explaination other than that the part had ben
backorderd for quite some time, but was now in stock. I noticed on
the Rigid site that the Rigid riser block will also fit the Crapsman,
and Jet 14" bandsaws. My question is if there is any other brand
riser block that will easily fit my Rigid saw. The Jet riser block
sells for about 69$. I read an article of someone modifying a Jet
riser block to fit a crapsman saw. I am reluctant to grind etc.to
modify it for safety reasons. Please let me know any solutions if
anyone has knowledge of these various riser blocks. Thanks Guys,
DUSTY
I bought one of the Craftsman 14" open stand bandsaws about a year ago.
(small gloat coming). It was a clearance item new in the box that I got for
$150. Anyway, after a few months I started thinking about a riser so I
contacted Sears. They told me that I would have to contact the manufacturer
of my saw, which is Rexon. I contacted Rexon and purchased the riser kit
for (I think) $59. So if you can contact the company that actually made the
saw for Ridgid, you might find it cheaper.
About the kit, the fit and finish should have been better. The rear blade
guard did not fit very well, and I had to make some minor modifications to
it to keep the blade from rubbing on it. I also have to remove the front
blade guard if I want to make a cut deeper than about 10 1/2". This isn't a
big problem because #1, I don't make very many cuts THAT deep, and #2, when
I do, there isn't a whole lot of blade left showing that the guard would
have covered anyway. A person would have to work at it to get a finger, or
some hair, or a nose, or whatever into that small space.

I did a search and could not find any info re. the Grizzley riser
fitting the Rigid bandsaw. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Maybe the owner of a Grizzley riser block and the owner of a Ridgid
riser block could dismantle their saws and trace the outlines of the
blocks, then scan them into the computer and post theme here for
comparrison. Not to much to ask in the interest of research eh?
{Grin} I am sure that there are others just as interested as me in the
comparisons.
Thanks to all,
DUSTY

The jet riser kit includes those things as well. But it's still less than $70.
Twice the price ($137) is quite a difference for basically the same thing.
Strange.

There was a post just a couple of weeks ago that a Grizzly riser for the
G0555 saw will work
and appeared to be a perfect match. Do a search and see if you can find
it. On another note,
the Grizzly extension also comes with a blade etc... and if I remember was
around $50-60. So $130+
is crazy.
Cheers,

The Ridgid SKU (AC5005) for the riser block is a kit that includes much
more than just the block. I don't know why they decided to include a
blade but they did. That alone is worth some coin. They also include
some safety parts which I would want if I were adding the block, such as
a blade guard. I am not trying to excuse the price, merely explain you
get more than just the block. FWIW - a while back there was a post
that a Grizzly block was an exact fit, if not a great paint match. If
all you really want is the block that might be a way to go.
