collet extension for Hitachi M12V vs. Dewalt DW625

I have a DW625 in a CMT Industrio phenolic router table and it is a
great router with the exception that the collet is about 1/2" too short
to put some of my bits at the proper height. I have used the MLCS
extension and a Jacobs power collet that also extends the collet. Both
have more vibration than I would like.

So...

I bought a Hitachi M12V. Nice router. I have not put it in the table
yet, but would like to know if anyone knows if it extends higher than
the DW625. Those that have a M12V in a table...have you ever wanted
the collet to be extended?

I am, but it will be a day or so. I have the powercollet on the DW625
right now, so I can't tell without changing it back to the standard
collet.

Do you feel the need of extending the length of the collet to get the
bit to extend above the table more?

I could not seem to get the answer I wanted, so I went ahead and put
the M12V into the table. No doubt about it, it appears to be a better
router table router than the Dewalt 625. It extends 0.4 to 0.5 more
above the Dewalt router. It also immediately releases the bit instead
of having to undo the collet nut a few more turns.

I did not install the Router Raizer in the M12V. It came with an
extended lift knob that was pretty nice. I am not sure I want to
bother with the Router Raizer. I would have to rotate the router 180
degrees from its present position to get the Router Raizer knob to the
front, anyway. In doing that, I would have the collet lock actuator in
the rear and have it in an inconvenient position. I don't really want
to put the 1/4" rod on the extension like I have seen some people do.
I think my $125 investment was a very good one.

Since you have both routers, what I would do if I were you, is to check.

Have the M12V under a table. Add an extension to the chuck lock. I'm
thinking about cutting off the two ears also, for more wrench room. (Mine
isn't a lift out)
