I think I'll call it "Patches"

Wasn't in the mood one rainy day to drive all the way to my wood
store. So I looked around me in my little shed and saw all manner of
different wood scraps, offcuts, and leftover bits and pieces from
previous projects and thought, "Why not?" One week later, a parquetry-
style box consisting of oak, walnut, pine, yew, purpleheart, sycamore,
ash, utili, wenge. The corner pillars are mahogany-stained pine. I
don't think the technique would transfer very well to a bureau or
wardrobe, though! Instant headache.

I never thought of it that way - but you're right! At least you can't
say it isn't unique.

I like it too! I've done a couple projects with multiple woods, and I
enjoy the variety in the process and the finished product. Always
makes me wonder why people want to stain wood, when there's so much
color and variation within the wood itself!
Nice box, anyway,

IK don't normally stain either. Only the corner pillars are stained
because I don't do turning and it's not easy finding dark hardwood
dowels around here. The rest is Danish oil.

I like it! Throw some weird angles into the design and you could call
it "Crazy Quilt!"

That said, I guess we just modified the standards for which scraps get
tossed/burned.

I am married to a quilter. I know these things.

You would be amazed at the number of quilt themed products that are targeted
to quilters. Everything from greeting cards to endless decorator types of
items with quilting themes.
