Heh. Crazy like an (arctic) fox. Just wait, C-less... There's f-all to
do for six months of the year except plan for tomorrow night.

They are saying the heaviest stuff will fall generally in the area
south of the 401, tapering off as you get closer to Erie and Huron
shores and the Bruce.
Here in Kitchener we are just on the edge of that projected area, so
who knows what we will get. It's been a strange one so far this year -
no bad storms (yet) and we are back up to about the same amount of
snow we had before the late december/early January thaw melted it ALL
away. Just over a foot of snow on the flat and open ground.
But we still have the rest of February, and all of March and April
ahead of us!!! Anything is possible (those who can remember 1978/79 in
this area will know what I mean!!!)

At those temperatures, we wait for the ice to warm up before putting

Was in Deer Park, TX with the relative humidity pushing 80%-90% and
the temps in the high 50s.

Never been so cold in my life.

A close 2nd was in a SafeWay warehouse in South Philly.

Both times had to spend about an hour in a bath tub full of warm/hot
water in order to warm up enough to walk down to the bar and rejoin
the human race.

Before coming to CA, Lake Erie was my home waters.

Sailing in November was limited to taking the boat to be hauled for
the winter.

November on the Great Lakes:

Remember the "Fitz"? It went down in November.

The amount of money to get me to set sail across Lake Erie (30-50
miles) in November hasn't been printed yet.

A front can come thru and give you a completely different set of
weather conditions in less than an hour.

Just my $0.05.

They're calling for 6-14" here. That's heavy for this area, but not too
much of a problem. The ice is frozen enough to plow the rink if the snow
blower can't keep up.

The biggest concern is going to be blowing snow. That's why we've got a
Blizzard Warning out (our second of the season, actually.)

All this morning, Weatherbug is saying it is 48 degrees (F) outside
where I live.
I have WB set to get the reading from the nearby International Airport
(SWF) 8 miles away.
However, the Weather channel site, and all my outdoor thermometers say
it is is 7 (F).
Weatherbug's other local thermometer locations all say 6-8 F
Closing and reopening Weatherbug and even rebooting the computer has had
no effect on the temperature error.
Maybe I should call SWF and tell them their building is on fire? :-)

It's a cold (for us), wet +49F here in Houston.

Judging by the number of folks wRecing mid day to day, it's either too
cold or too wet, or both, to be making sawdust.

Although I did spend the morning futzing and fiddlin' with Festool
technology while cutting some drawer bottoms to length out in the
garage, which is currently set up as a material storage/cutting area.

Don't mind cold, and don't mind wet (unless I'm duck or goose hunting),
but the combination gets more unpleasant with each added year.

I have seen that happen not in Nov, and it kicked the shit out of us. The
only choice at the time was throwing out the anchor. It held.

In the western end, the shallowness made the wave faces (12 foot estimated)
pretty damn steep. The outboard kicker was replaced with an inboard before
the next year. After more experience had been gained, we put in two reef
points, and got a storm jib, and a sea anchor. I would have sailed through
it with that new equipment and knowledge.

Come on Ed, -4°C is about (32-(~2*4))= 24°F.
-40°F=-40°C
More accurately, °F = 5/9 * °C + 32

Got 40 lbs of propane, generator, fridge full of food, electric
blankets, scotch, a couple of books I have been meaning to read.

A balmy 0=B0F this morning. Dog did not want to stay out too long,
dragged me back inside after 5 minutes even with her coat on. A
serious ass-kicking expected from a weather system crawling up from
Detroit/Chicago... already labelled STORM OF THE CENTURY by those who
live for the day they can call a storm a STORM OF THE CENTURY.

Ya wanna be out in the fog on the Avalon Peninsula with a 40 knot
Nor-Easter blowin' at about 33F, bye!!! Then y'all'll know what cold
is!!!!
Or stand at the corner of Portage and Main in Winterpeg.
Or in the wind-tunnel of Queen Street in Toronto when the wind is
coming in off Lake Ontario at 30 knots at -22C. The wind speed on the
ground between the skyscrapers can reach double the "out in the open"
speed.
Makes 80% humidity at 50F with a strong shore breze almost balmy in
comparison!!!!! (not denying it is far from comfortable though!!)

I ferried a sailboat across part of Lake Erie in November, with a water
temperature of about 36F, and an air temperature of about 15F with the wind
blowing about 25 knots.

Nothing like that damp cold.

Outdoor BBQ seldom stops unless there is too much wind.

But... these stories I read here about 'cold'.... Try working a summer
job on The Arctic Trader, which was a Shell fuel supply ship in
Frobisher Bay. I said a 'summer job' as that was the only time of year
the ice had a few gaps in it to get through. Standing watch looking
for icebergs it didn't have to get too windy for it to take your nose
off in about 2 minutes. When the spray off the bow would crystallize
into ice in mid-air it is cold. Or taking a load of aviation fuel to
Thunder Bay in December coming across Lake Superior on a windy day...

Worst part is, you never get used to it, in fact the opposite is true,
you become cold quicker and take longer warm up again. But it was a
great way for a student to make money, free room and board, no
apartment or car to keep and really no place to spend money..it was
also a real eye-opener in terms of natural beauty and when you met
people up in the Arctic, they were always interesting folk. Coat
Guard, military, social services, research scientists, crad sharks,
and musicians...

Ayup. There are some serious drinking/drug/abuse problems in some of

Happened again ... first time I recall chasing a framing crew off site
before they were ready to leave, in Houston of all places.

We were down to +29 and dropping at 3PM yesterday afternoon. Media was
forecasting icy roads after a morning of rain, but, as turned out, it
dried up fairly quickly when the cold dry air rolled in.

Looks like we got two more night of +20 weather this week. The guys were
working in tee shirts and shorts Tuesday.

We had a bright, sunny, 55F day today. Just lovely. I finished running
the wiring for the HF winch and got it running. For protection, I
found a resettable, weatherproof, inline circuit breaker for under the
hood.

In the last episode, I had mounted it on a piece of SS welded to a
length of 2" receiver tubing so it's removable and/or lockable in
place.

Now to build the stump/fencepost puller cradle and I'll be set for the
next too-backbreaking job. This is the tripod style puller I like:

No, only do that when it reads 451F. Perhaps you should call them and
