Considering buying my first table saw. Always wanted to save up for a Delta
Unisaw BUT I just don¹t have the space. Delta just released a new model;
basically a small cabinet saw, the 36-655 (Canada 36-653c). It is going for
$849 (CDN). I would appreciate any input or comments before I dig deep a
buy a table saw. Your experience?

This saw probably takes the same space as a Unisaw with at 30" fence.

Yeah. For anyone who is interested, and not counting benchtop saws, it pays to
check out the footprint of ANY full-sized (more or less) table saw. Those who
can't fit a Unisaw, model 66 or model 350 in their shops may be surprised to
find that many contractor's saws have the same or even a slight larger space
requirement. Shrinking motor sizes does not shrink most table sizes,nor does it
shrink the need for stability that comes with a wider set base.

I purchased this saw at the Hamilton woodwork show this spring!!! Do I love
it---YES!! Is it a Unisaw---NO. Do I need a Unisaw NO.. Do I think its
better than the Contractor---YES.
Thats the short and sweet version...now here's the story....
Brought the saw home (get a friend to help its very heavy) Generally
this saw came in a wooden crate containing the saw and a long cardboard box
containing the fence and rails. The saw needs very little assembly as the
cabinet and motor and guts and top etc... are all premounted..just add the
table extensions and a few misc pieces...Dump the sliding extension piece
and fill the gap between the rails with a laminate top and you'll feel like
you own a whole different unit.
I have only used this saw as 110V but I dont need a ton of power for mine is
just a hobby use...but for me this thing has handled everything including
8/4 maple rip that I throw at it
Surprisingly I found I really liked the fence...my initial intent was prob
to change to a Unifence in a year or two because it will accept it but I'm
not so sure now. This is a great fence system. Mitre gauge is standard
but not bad. The big bonus for me over a contractor is dust collection and
this unit works very well in that regard.. Value for the $ I consider to
be 110%!!! Would I buy it again YES!!!!!

Here in the lower 48 this saw (under a different model
number) was available in the 90's but discontinued around
the turn of the century. It is a contractor's saw with a
modified motor mount so the motor can hang below the
trunnions. The motor is 2 horse.
You can probably get a sense for the saw by looking at some
past messages on Delta contractor's saws.
It's not yet available in the US (again) but I suspect it
will be soon as Delta is re-inventing itself in light of the
competition of other Contractor'sSawInnaBoxes from Jet and
DeWalt.
By the way, the Contractor'sSawInnaBox is only a couple/few
inches smaller than a Unisaw. If you can afford the Unisaw
it would make sense to buy it. It'll save you an upgrade
later.
