How would you make this??

Im starting to make another poker table - and I really like the looks of
these legs.

Can anyone give me a few suggestions on the best way to make them?

My initial thought is to cut a curved top and bottom and make some "ribs" to
follow the curve - then over it w/ some nice 1/4" mahogony ply wood.

Any other ideas??

Thanks
-Rob

Most common is 3/8" bending luan plywood (wackywood), wraped around a form.
Cover with veneer of choice.

Heres a link after a Google Search for bending plywood luan

That should work. But I'd try to find 1/8" thick veneers and use two
sheets bent over the ribs. Gluing the two sheets together in the
curve will make them very strong. If needed, you could wet the
outside before attaching to the ribs to help with the bending. Lots of
clamps will come in handy with this project. Good luck.

I would do a google for MDF half rounds, or plywood half rounds. There are
several companies out there that make the shapes, you would have to veneer
them. If you want to make them from hardwoods, I would make them by stave
laminations. Just like making a barrel. I have made sleds for the thickness
planner that hold the parts at an angle while they pass through the planner.
Since you don't need to make a complete circle, the tolerance doesn't have
to be that close.
