Last night SWMBO said I could order the Veritas (LV)shoulder plane as a
Christmas present. I was happy to say the least. I went on-line to order
it and I could not reach their site. I tried over and over and again this
morning and I cannot get there. I click on the link, the address appears in
my URL box on top, and that's it!. I have LV bookmarked in various places,
but none works. I even tried typing in the URL directly and its the same
thing.
I also noticed the same thing with Google. All my other links (or at least
those I tried) work fine. I visited probably a dozen tool sites and as a
test I even went to my daughter's favorites (Polly Pockets, Rugrats, etc.)
and had no difficulty.
That leaves me two questions.
1. What could be wrong, how do I fix it?
2. Does anyone have a phone number for Lee Valley so I can at least get my
new toy (er, tool) that way?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Check JavaScript permissions etc in the Internet Tools/Security area. Have
you recently installed a firewall or something like ZoneAlarm?
The fact that you can order from some sites and not from LV just means that
they use different methods of accessing the order server. Put LV in your
Trusted Sites area also. Look closely to see if you have cookies blocked for
the secure server - that could cause this too.
At least you were able to order your goodie the 'old fashioned' way . <g>

There may have been a temporary problem in a Domain Name Server somewhere

I just tried that, and it didn't help. But thanks for the idea. I called
LV and did a phone order, so I will have the plane, but it bugs me why I
can't order on line. For fun I tried to order from different companies and
I can order from Harbor Freight, Lie Nielsen and JR Cigars, but I can't
order from either LV or Hock (damn, I wanted a scraper blade for my Stanley
80). This is wierd.
The only improvement is that now I can get to the LV site but when I click
on the "buy" icon it just stops (yet it works on the three other sites I
mentioned).

I had this same problem a few weeks ago, even posted about it here on
the wreck. I agree with the others that it must be related to your
browser settings as I was able to (duh) order just fine using my
wife's laptop (after racking my brain for a few days). I do use a
cookie blocker but even after allowing Lee Vally treats it was still
no-go; so I think it's related to Javascript.
HTH, Dave
Sometimes the cache in your browser can cause problems. Deleting the info in
the cache is sometimes a PITA afterwards, but at least you'll know if the
problem is yours.
