Searching for (new) wood supplier

Seems I gotta find me a new source for wood. So, I'll tell ya'll what
I got in the way of suppliers, my situation, and ask y'all for any
additional input or sources. This is mostly aboutyour personal
experiences since I'm quite capable of a google search. Also, some
places I'm thinking about might not be found using google (like
mills).

I know about, but haven't dealt with Hartzell and Steve Wall. Once I
tried to order some 6/4 or 8/4 cherry from Hartzell and they told me
they didn't have it. I'm planning on checking out (and buying my 6
or 8/4 cherry, some maple and walnut that I couldn't get at Advantage)
Exotic Lumber in Gaithersburg Monday. Little pricy, but not as bad as
others, and I don't need much (2-6/4 * 7' * 4", 2-4/4 * 7' * 4" and a
bit more). Besides, I gotta check out their selection of exotics.
There are other places in the DC area, but they are prohibitively
expensive usually (Woodcraft, and so on).

At this point I prefer to buy S2S1E, in quantities somewhat less than
200 board feet (10 of this, 20 of that, etc.)

I live in the DC burbs, but do get up to the Harrisburg PA area,
though that's gonna get less frequent. Don't have a truck at the
moment, but can carry 8' rs in my car (just not too many of them).

I think that ideally I'd like to find a place that has decent prices
and will ship the stuff (like Advantage used to do). Second option
would be a place not too far that has decent prices (like a mill
maybe). I think there was a place in VA like this that I can't recall.
I'm more reluctant with the second choice since I don't have a truck
and would hate to drive a million miles to pick up my $12 ;-) worth of
wood.

What are some other options?

Thanx
Renata

Been a lonnng time since I was up there. I would say move. LOL

Maybe you and one or three others in the area could go in together
on a load of wood. If no one has a truck, trailer, or station wagon,
maybe you could chip in and rent one. If you've got space to dry wood,
I'd say hunt up a mill. Maybe they'll deliver.

What do you make anyway? You may have said before, but if so, I
forgot.

And, last, but not least, don't listen to Homer.

Jim,

When have I resorted to psycho babble? :)

In case you haven't noticed, Renata has just mentioned she is gonna get
a truck.

So my original suggestion was valid. I was offering reasonable
suggestions. One was to get a truck. the rest was merely facetious
silliness. Unfortunately, some folks so red and their blood pressure
shot up. Can't help that. I am ALWAYS being facetious. I'm NOT into
name calling, but I do like to be silly. If you want to equate
silliness with meanness, that's your bag. I, however will not wear the
title of "Mr. Meany". Sorry to deflect your criticism, but I don't
accept your hypothesis... But you are entitled to your opinion of me.

I respect you for not resorting to name calling.

IF you have read my posts from time to time you would KNOW, in your
heart of heart, that unless I am responded to one of the more vicious
miscreants that show up here from time to time, I'm most ALWAYS joking
when I say something OUTRAGEOUS and/or FACETIOUS. You should KNOW that
about me by now. Why do I have to resort to disclaimers during those
types of posts? I make those types of comments so often, I'd be typing
my fingers to the bone, adding disclaimers. It insults the intelligence
of the reader and spoils the effect. I PRESUME that people here know
about my dry sense of humor. Tongue in cheek, that sort of thing.

Renata: I can say that Steve Wall is a good guy to deal with, when I lived in
NC I used to go up to Mayodan and buy wood. My buddy ordered stock shipped,
and they always gave him nice picks, and he never complained, so I'd give Wall
a vote of confidence. His prices are competitive as well. Good luck.

Ah hell, cats out of the bag now, Bob is 100% correct on this. Brian is a

I should have known that? Don't you have a kid?

You are calling a relative an unsavory name and he isn't here to defend

What I said Homer, was most people would have figured that out.

Don't you have a kid?

No. I have two. Which has nothing to do with me gaining an uncle
thru marriage. Start paying attention, or stop posting.

You are calling a relative an unsavory name and he isn't here to defend
himself. that's pretty low.

He was not a nice person.

He might say the same of you, were he here to discuss the matter.

He was always full of stories about how I liked him so much when I
was a kid. Strange, I can remember my dad coming home from WWII, but I
can't ever remember like the uncle. You don't suppose he lied, do you?

If everyone you encounter seems to be an AH in your judgment, perhaps
it's not them so much as it is you that has problem.

On the contrary, it's my problem when I am plagued with them. But,
matter of fact, throughout life I have ran into very few people I could
not work with. Or ignore. Well, actually one I was able to ignore,
after he took some papers off my desk and I told him I was about to
climb over my desk and whip his ass. He was at least 6 inches taller
than me, and outweighed me a fair amount, but he kinda got the
impression I was a bit miffed. Well, actually. I didn't tell him I was
going to whip his ass. He was standing in front of the doorway, and a
flight of stairs was right beyond the door, and what I actually told him
was that if he ever touched another paper on my desk, I would climb over
the desk and knock his ass down those stairs. But, being the kind and
gentle soul that I am, I restrained myself. So, no more problems with
that one, except he was the Sergeant Major's pet, and he got a bit bent
at me when I told him to keep his pet away from my desk, not in those
word, of course; but, I did tell him I would knock his ass down the
steps. Somehow he didn't see the humor in that. The others were
bosses, including that particular Sergeant Major, so threatening them
was not an option. So, probably only about 5-6 total, but, they were
all complete, and total, assholes. I don't figure that too terribly
many, in 60+ years.

Most of the time I try hard not to call folks anything worse than
miscreant (pretty mild) or moron (when I'm cranky). You, on the other
hand have been emulating Cramer; maybe you ARE Cramer. No; I take that
back, Cramer is you.

Cramer? Hardly. I basically try to speak on here, only as I would
to someone's face. Of course, in real-life, I wouldn't be talking to
you, I'd b avoiding you, or, if that wasn't possible, ignoring you; but,
certainly not talking. But, if I were somehow forced into talking to
you, well, let's just say the results would probably be about the same.
And, as you seem not to notice, I pretty much stick to responding to any
of your posts addressed to me.

There's a difference Scott, er... T...er Joat...er who the hell are you
gonna be next week?

Same person I was last week, today, and will be tomorrow. Myself.
And, it's an acroynm, not a name, so all caps. JOAT.

BTW, I'm babbling because I'm waiting to pop a DVD in - League of
Extraordinary Gentlemen or thereabouts.

Homer, if you will check, I don't accuse you of babbling. The word
I use is burbled, not babbled.

catch you later.

That would seem to imply I enjoy your company, and conversation.
No.

oh. Don't get pissy on me now. I'm counting on you to have enough
discernment to know when I'm just screwing wit ya.

Every post you make to me, you try to.

By the way, since you are so fond of using the words "miscreant",
and "facetious", I took the liberty of posting the dictionary's version
of both. Miscreant certainly does not apply to me in any way I don't
hold a false religious belief, being spiritual, and not religious.
Besides, that sounds like something only a religious fanatic would
accuse someone of, having a false religious belief. And, while I am
spiritual, and don't consider myself a Christian, I do live by what
people call Christian principles. I have a conscience, have scruples.
etc. So, the term is totally inaccurate, and I don't care to have the
term applied to me. I can't speak for everyone here, but I would say
probably it wouldn't apply to anyone here, regardless of religion, or
whatever. So, why don't you stop using it?

And, facetious doesn't seem to apply to you.

From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) (web1913)
Miscreant \Mis"cre*ant\, a. 1. Holding a false religious faith.
2. Destitute of conscience; unscrupulous. --Pope.

2. One not restrained by Christian principles; an unscrupulous villain;

has nothing to do with your uncle. has all to do with me thinking you
were married. so shoot me!

why do you keep bringing up a different meaning for miscreant, than the
correct one??? it is merely an evildoer or villain. You are attempting
to make ME look like someone incapable of using the correct terms, when
all along it is you trying to best me. Ain't gonna happen in this
lifetime! Go back to school and learn the big words instead of focusing
all of your energy on "winning" an argument. I didn't use it to mean a
heretic or infidel, so GIVE IT A REST! You've made the same lame
argument before and I rebutted your lame attempt to win on this score.

YOu sound like a hot-head if you are gonna kick someone's butt or even
THINK about it over some papers taken from your desk. But hey, I
wasn't there...

The way you paint Cramer is that HE would not act the same in real life.
I was guessing he's even worse in person! :) You on the other hand,
I'd expect to have the same persona you present here.

I said I was babbling last night; I never said that you thought I was. I
was "thinking out loud"; not accusing you of anything. Try not to take
offense when none was intended. Save that emotion for when I intend to
offend! :)

Try not to copy the entire contents of the dictionary next time! ONE
pertinent passage would be fine.

Had I known you don't want me to reply to you, I would have stopped a
long time ago. Better late than never!

Crap. I'd hoped Homer could last at least a day, before breaking

Thanx.

Actually, I hope to buy a used truck sometime in the future as plans
dictate a truck (well, make life lots easier and therefore justify the
purchase a bit more).

Did think about a hitch (and trailer) and may go that route (in
addition to future truck?) as it'd tide me over (before th truck
purchase) and be useful for attaching a bike carrier.

Why thanx for asking.

I make contemporary furniture kinda sporadicaly, lately, veeery
sporadically, and have this itch to try my hand at jewelry boxes (but
am working on a unique and functional design). I also do
architectural design.

Combination of sheet goods and solid woods. I haven't had a customer
willing to pay for solid cherry or oak carcasses, and haven't been
"inspired" to do solid cherry cabinetry for myself yet. Some smaller
pieces (like cd racks) are all sold wood, of course.

The entertainment center I'm trying to finish (kinda like Larry's bow
saw, though I have a long way to wait to catch up to him - I've only
been at it 2 years) will have a pair of raised panel solid cherry
pocket doors. Part of the hang up is I keep changing minor design
details (liek the crown). But, I think I've settled on a final
version, and in fact was trying to order some 6/4 cherry for side
"pillars" - kinda pseudo raised panel - (to 'reinforce' the ply sides,
which are tending to bow out in the 4' high tv space) when this to-do
started. Hoping to finish by New Year.

Lately I've been occupied with all sorts of stuff (like carpentry, but
also life), not all voluntary, that keeps me away from the shop. Good
news is that I've probably had my fill of Habitat for Humanity so
won't be building or designing or anything else for 'em.

Sorry - I tend to ramble... Next time you'll be more carefull asking
knowing the long winded response. :-)

Far be it from me to give a real answer to your question unlike
another poster, but if you're only buying 10 or 20 bf of lumber, I
have frequently bought wood off of ebay. If you pay attention to
shipping and pick the right auctions, you can get a pretty good deal.
Most of the boards you'll get are under 6' in length due to shipping
size/weight considerations. It's also a great place to buy some
unique boards used as accents on projects.

Also, many lumber yards have their own "shops" on ebay, so you know
you're buying from a place that has quite a variety of woods.

My side of the disagreement, eh? I'll keep it short. You were

Renata,
check out the local cabinet supply shops. I get a lot of my lumber at one.
The plusses are nice lumber and decent prices. The minus is that they cannot
do anything except sell you a piece of wood as it sits in their warehouse.
They can't cut it to length, plane it or whatever. I've taken to keeping a
handsaw behind the seat of my truck. Often the boards I want are 16' long, and
my 6' truck bed just can't really handle it.

Thanx. I'd forgotten about that option.

Actually, when I lived in S. central PA, I used to deal w/2 cabinet
shops for my wood. And a big advantage with one (Campbell's) in
particular was that he Would mill it for me. Prices were pretty good
also. Snyder's was pretty good too but a little pricier and a little
more reluctant to mill. But still ok as an alternative.

Problem I have now is that I only get up there on weekends and don't
want to impose upon the guy unless I have a larger order (which
usually requires a truck...)..

Cabinet shops are also an option, but what I meant was the wholesalers who sell
plywood, hardwood, plastic laminate and lumber to the cabinet shops. Most of
them also sell to the general public. If you have a large order, they also
make deliveries (although delivery policies probably vary from store to store.
There may be a minimum order or a delivery charge.)

I'm lucky.
I trade part time installation labor for my wood.
If they get behind on a job I will go in at night and work on it.
I work with computers so it's a nice break to make a few bucks smacking in
cabinets.
I get wholesale wood prices against $40 a hour labor AND I get barrels of trim
pieces free as well.

Well, let me help you to recall.
You are NOT paraphrasing. You are either lying or are
proving that you really are the complete idiot that many here
believe you to be. It would really help your case if you took
the time to read the drivel you had previously belched forth
before rushing to insert your foot in your mouth yet again.
But I suppose that would be too much of a strain for your

Dave, I currently make my living woodworking, mostly; certainly in large
part. I don't have a truck, and I have asked for help obtaining supplies,
including wood. Steve Knight makes his living doing woodworking. I don't
think he has a truck. I don't think he even has a car (G). (Bikes don't
count, right?) I have seen him ask here for opinions obtaining wood
supplies, too.

We (and Renata) probably aren't the only ones. You're simply and clearly
wrong on the point that you argued. When that happens, the only rational
reaction is to admit it, reverse yourself, and move on -- like Scott did
when you pointed out his error about your claiming to have been in the
Navy.

Now I have a question for you: Why did you respond in such a foolish way
to Renata's earnest question? Do you really believe there's any
justification for the tone and content of your response to her? Just a
straight answer, please; no psychobabble needed.

Uh, that's a pretty obvious non sequitur argument, don't you think? She
did mention she will need to get a truck, but that's not really relevant
to your response. It doesn't validate your suggestion. Do you really
think she intends to forego buying any more wood until she gets a truck?

Originally, she had asked for wood sources that might work for her, given
her current situation, which she carefully outlined, including the fact
that she does not yet have a truck. You said:

> options?
> Give up woodworking.
> Get a truck.
> Move.
> Pick any ONE of the above to solve your problem.
>
> OR, just quit whining!

None of your "suggestions" responded to her query. She says, "wood
suppliers?" You say, "give up woodworking." See how it doesn't answer the
question? Here's another example: She says, "can you suggest any sources
for small quantities of wood?" And you say, "get a truck." Or, she asks
"do you know of any wood suppliers near me?" and you respond, "move." One
more, in case you still don't understand. She wants to know "do you know
where I can buy wood for a reasonable price, perhaps online?" and you
tell her "quit whining!"

> I was offering reasonable suggestions.

Really? No, not really.

> One was to get a truck. the rest was merely facetious
> silliness.

This really smacks of deliberate deception. First of all, you "suggested"
four options. The first three are listed together. The fourth looks like
an afterthought. Maybe now you want to claim that the last was your
facetious silliness, and the first three were your "reasonable
suggestions." But you really don't think it is reasonable that she should
move or give up woodworking, just because she is looking for a new source
of wood, do you? I think not. And if not, then what distinguishes your
"get a truck" suggestion from these other two? Nothing. Look at what you
posted!

How can you now claim that your "suggestion" to get a truck was
"reasonable?" It is buried undistinguished within a post laden with what
you yourself characterize as "facetious silliness." There is nothing to
alert the reader to your sudden, temporary reasonableness, and there is
no hint that you have returned from reasonableness to silliness. Don't
forget, your "reasonable suggestion" is well camouflaged by the fact that
it is not a logical response to her question!

> Unfortunately, some folks so red and their blood pressure
> shot up. Can't help that.

Really?

> I am ALWAYS being facetious.

How about in your previous sentence, "Can't help that." Were you being
facetious then?

When you say "those types of comments" that you make so often, do you
mean silliness, facetiousness, outrageousness, that sort of thing? Would
you consider these to be a major part of your contribution to this forum?

Last things first: Sure a lot of WW gets done without trucks. But who,
without one, makes their living at it and asks for opinions on how to
obtain supplies? OTOH, if the OP doesn't make their living at it,
that's another story.

I'd rather not go over in DETAIL long ago transgressions, so let's skip
the "you said/I said" history, if you don't mind.

Let's focus on the future. If you can refrain from calling me names and
refrain from attributing to me things from your imagination; and
disagree with me on the merits of the argument at hand, as opposed to
character attacks, then we can liven up the Wreck with some honest
discussion. When it devolves into name calling, I'm not gonna respond
like we're best friends. I find name calling is most always resorted to
by those who either lack intelligent debating tools or who have lost
their cool. Either way it only makes the person with the foul mouth
look like a jerk. You can't make a lucid argument when your speech is
filled with invectives and profanities. How do you want others to
perceive you, and how do you really think they perceive you when you
write in that fashion? Do you want respect? I doubt that's the way to
go about it. Do you want to be taken seriously? How's it working for
you so far?

I, along with everyone else on a public forum, have a right to express
my opinion and you have the right to disagree. That's ok. What isn't
ok is the constant personal attacks . Good natured ribbing is fine;
heck I do that every day here. I like humor in the form of sarcasm,
irony, silliness, and facetiousness.

We can't change history, but we sure can change our future behavior, if
we choose. Would you be willing to spend your future energies making
friends, or enemies? Arguing about woodworking techniques doesn't
require that you hate the person with an opposing view.

This is way more effort than I expected out of myself to try to get
through to you that we should either "get along" or "move along". The
choice is yours, Scott.

I've been hanging around for about a year now - haven't posted anything for
quite awhile though. I just have a casual observation...

Human nature is so dad-gummed fascinating. Why is it that the one person who
always seems to make a fool of himself insists on continuing to make a fool of
himself. I especially like the Mensa-wannabe vs. the direct, no-nonsense
people.

Unfortunately, I don't fall into either catagory. I usually just sit back and
watch the show when the words start flying. Although, if I get really riled up,
I might respond with a "you to buddy"

Someone smarter than me once said, "The empty barrel makes the most noise."
Seems somewhat appropriate here.

It's only sarcasm folks, or is it?

Somebody has to do it.

Renata has an actual woodworking problem. Not the kind of "what
happens if I glue shirt buttons on to squash pies" kind of question that
you favor, but a serious question that affects her livelihood.

She took the trouble to ask it in a well written, articulate, and
thoughtful way. I hope she gets some helpful responses - I didn't respond
to her, because I had nothing to offer.

You, who have even less to offer, DID respond, with an
useless, unmerited attack. Who's the kneejerker?

To clarify...

The truck is a potential future purchase, being driven more by my
intention to get into housing rehab. Combined w/my ww needs I hope
that "justifies" the purchase.

(I sure do miss my truck.)

Right now, when I need smaller quantites of wood, I tend to not want
to rent a truck to pick up a few board feet. That's why I like mail
order. Besides, I don't have to go runnign around the countryside
looking for a decent price on wood (which don't really exist in the DC
area).

Obviously, if I had intentions of picking up a nice size load, I'd get
a truck and find a well stocked and priced place. Right now, I
changed my design and decided I needed to add some "stiles" and
"rails" to my enertainment center sides and needed some 6/4 cherry.
This doesn't warrant getting a truck, though my neighbor has been kind
enough to offer use of her (rented) Dakota. One of these days we're
gonna take a trip to Gaithersburg and get my wood.

Maybe she makes dollhouse furniture, and can carry a year's worth of
production in her glovebox. Maybe she makes wooden pillboxes, and they'd
rattle around and get lost in the bed of a pickup truck. Any number of
scenarios would explain why she isn't interested in buying $500 worth of
wood, and doesn't need a truck. None of this changes your status as an

A few years back, some guy sued another guy for calling him an
asshole. The defendant won the case, convincing the court beyond a shadow
of a doubt that the accuser was indeed an asshole.

Can you see where I'm going with this?

It's not a character attack, Dave. It's a statement of fact. There
is an almost endless archive of your posts to back it up. Crikey,
rec.woodworking could probably bring a class action suit against you for
emotional suffering - never mind the hearing damage you've caused by your
incessant high-pitched whining.

Again, it's not name calling, but simple truth.

And I'm so cool, I have to be measured in degrees Kelvin, so that
can't be the reason.

I'm content with that. I do not hunger for the approval of others.

So far, you are the only one who cares enough to squawk about it.
And again, calling you an asshole is not profanity, but the thoughtful,
precise use of language.

> Do you want respect? I doubt that's

They're not constant, Dave. I am only moved to crap on you when your
obnoxiousness exceeds a certain, fairly high, limit. I started reading the
Wreck yesterday morning, and you had responded to just about every thread
on it, mostly with useless, unfunny, annoying posts. By the time I got to

Renata,

I use www.lakeshorehardwoods.com as many do here in the Central NY area. He
ships and I believe he's taken lessons from Lee Valley too...;-) Great
company to do business with .... knows what a customer is and how to treat
them.

They have a fine selection of woods and the best cherry around. All kiln
dried to 6%-8% guaranteed and they do the drying themselves. Since I drive
to their location I've never looked at his mail order policies to see if
there's a minimum. Brian is his name - great person to deal with and I know
you'll like the wood. Give him a call

I just checked the site - no minimums. Although he doesn't state it on his
site, I've asked him before if he ships and he said yes. So give him a call
at (315) 298-6407.

Guess I DON'T recant anything of my first facetious post to you, AFTER
ALL! Way to go! You had so much support, like you were this delicate

You remind me of plaintiffs who keep badgering the judge to see things

he/she is about to rule in the plaintiff's favor. That's BAD FORM! And
not too bright.

However, I shall not lower myself to your level and call you names, as

BTW, I don't recall saying that you shouldn't be woodworking! That's

Making an erroneous statement is one thing; we all do that, but when you
have been put on notice that I didn't say what you attribute to me, then
you are a common LIAR. That's not a mistake. That is intentional,
although the ramifications of the lie itself is inconsequential, your
habit of lying about me is persistent. You have done this very same
thing more than several times during the past year.

Sparring can be fun, but you should at least try to project the image of
a man who was brought into this world by parents who had self respect
and taught their young the difference between right and wrong. Or did
you become a liar through now fault of your parents? Are you mentally
ill? There are people who lie about anything and everything. Those
people are called pathological liars.

Here's a little something for you to chew on:

Osric University
Applied Abnormal Psychology
Pathological Lying

What is a pathological liar?

A deliberate liar knows he is lying. A pathological liar may not.

Although there is no precise definition, certainly none defined by the
holiest of holies, the DSM-IV, we can state with certainty that it is a
person who tells lies incessantly. We can eliminate those who tell lies
in order to avoid extreme persecution. But those who consistently tell
lies, whether faced with punishment or not, may be considered
pathological. We must keep in mind that "pathological" simply means
abnormal, or grossly atypical...who among us has not told a lie? At what
point does such behavior become "pathological"?

In addition to the difficulty of distinguishing between the liar and the
pathological liar, we must also isolate this mental disturbance. Lying
is a characteristic of several other disorders as well, such as conduct
disorder (CD) and antisocial personality disorder (APD). CD, like many
reports of pathological lying, typically has its onset during
adolescence. Other behaviors may include inappropriate aggression,
destruction, and serious violations of rules and laws. And, as suggested
by some doctors, both pathological lying and CD may be caused by, shall
we say, challenging situations in the home. Or by a lack of seratonin,
in which case Prozac or Zoloft may help. Along with, of course,
expensive sessions of psychotherapy.

[NOTE: there were a number of spelling errors in the quoted text, so I
wonder about this site, but I'm too lazy to grab another quote for you,
Scottie, boy.]

You fit the profile; you lie incessantly. There MAY be hope for you, IF
you are willing to admit you have a problem. There are drugs, and
psychotherapy. Haven't I mentioned this to you before? IF not, I
apologize, as you obviously need some help with your affliction.

I'm serious. You have an emotional problem that can be cured, IF you
can admit it.

Amusing? YES, you CAN be amusing, but not in the context of lying about
me, or anyone else for that matter.

And I still say that a woodworker who makes a living at it, needs to
have the necessary tools and equipment or they are merely a "wanna-be".
I'm surely not in the "business". I'm doing my woodworking as a
hobby. When I DID run a business, you can bet I had everything
necessary. That would be eight years worth, BTW. Then an injury took
me away from it...

Why did you assume I was in the Navy?

So tell me again why someone who whines about having a business without
the necessary equipment deserves your undying devotion? Or was someone
blowing smoke when they said the OP makes a living from WWing? I
believe YOU were the one who said it affects her LIVELIHOOD. So explain
to me in little words how a person who makes money woodworking doesn't
have a truck for hauling supplies, equipment, or whatever, comes on here
to whine about the lack thereof, complains about a $500 minimum that ONE
company she dealt with just instituted, and this causes you to fall all
over yourself to make it all better? If those details are inaccurate,
than someone has been less than truthful today, and it isn't me, Scotty.

and of COURSE I wouldn't look ME up for *sshole, as YOU were the one who
uses the foul language. YOu are so CLUELESS. A serious lack of reading
comprehension is making you look like a moron. :) Time to go sit on the

Sigh. And, I had promised myself I wouldn't respond to any posts

well, so it goes.

Well, Homer, were you in the Navy?

I didn't see any whining, by Renata. She stated a problem, using
capitals, and punctuation; and asked for input. Instead, she gets
Homer.

There is no requirement for a person making money, or even a
living, woodworking, to own a truck, or even a trailer. When I was a
kid, a man just up the way from us made his living woodworking, out of a
one-car garage. He had no truck, he had no trailer that I know of.
Yet, he made a living, and supported himself and his wife, with no
probem. I knew another man, he didn't even have a vehicle.

Same thing, there's no rule some has to buy $500 worth of wood at a
time. Yes, a company can make a rule like that. No, it does not mean
she has to buy that much, or that anyone has to. Even if anyone did
have the $500, they might not have room to store that much wood. I sell
some stuff, and it would be a really major hardship on me to come up
with $500 for a wood purchase. But, it's a moot point, because I don't
have storage room.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but why don't you give a reply
that is actually of use, once in awhile?

That's a far cry from the OT BS that we are indulging ourselves in

Well, Homer, I sat down, thought about a technical solution I was
after, and figured that out without asking anyone else how to do it. It
not only will save me a bit of wood, it will save me several minutes n
producing the part, as well as making it look better.

I also went to town, checked my mail, got a bite to eat, did a bit
of fine tuning on one of my patterns, decided how I could modify a
project in progress to comply with the new design, did probably a dozen
google searches, checked my toilet paper supply (60 rolls), received a
package from UPS, finished the details on a new router pattern/master,
put some additional links on my web page, and in general enjoyed my day.
And, all that, without jumping on anyone's case over nothing.

it wasn't so much of "jumping all over her" as the ensuing arguments
indicate. I was being facetious about a couple of things, ALONG WITH my
recommendation to get a truck, but THAT got lost in the shuffle. IF you
check her later posts, she called me some choice names, and then
mentioned to someone else SHE IS GONNA GET A TRUCK! I rest my case!

Some time ago, a gent posted his experience using a folding trailer.
Did a quick google and maybe this is the thread. If not search a bit
more:

My pickup recently died and now I have a Saturn with a hitch on it.
I'll be buying a light trailer in 5x8 range to bring wood home. You
might want to think about a light trailer if your car can handle it.
