John Kerry said that he is probably going to run again for president in
2008. Could he beat Hillary Clinton in the primary? Should he run with
Edwards again, or choose Howard Dean instead as a running mate?

I think Kerry should have run with someone like Senator Biden or a Governor
even. Edwards was too nice, and Kerry needed an attack dog like Cheny who
had weight behind them.

Senators don't make good presidential candidates in the information rich, TV
world, particularly if they have been around very long.
A senator pisses off too many people and has too many recorded votes that come
back to haunt them.
When they win it is because they are running against another senator who pissed
off more people than they did. (ie;Kennedy/Nixon, Johnson/Goldwater).
Kerry was smart to keep his senate seat.

If the Republicans "come to their senses" they'll stop running moderates. Look
what's happened in the last thirty years or so: moderate Republicans don't win
when the Democrats bother to run a real candidate -- probably because the
voters don't perceive any particular reason to vote for them instead of the
other guys. But it's been forty years since the last time a conservative
Republican lost a Presidential election.

You have absolutely got to be kidding, right? Don't know how to fight
dirty? James Carville, Tad Devine, Paul Begala don't know how to fight
dirty? They did nothing in this campaign but fight dirty, they and their
lap dogs in the press. Let's see, Texas National Guard service and forged
documents, threats that Bush will destroy the Social Security system, Bush
hates seniors, Bush is going to start a draft, Bush is going to poison
water and kill people, worst economy since the great depression, ...

If Kerry gets the nomination in 2008 I would have to conclude that the
Democrats are addicted to losing.
But you're right about an "attack dog" vice-presidential candidate. What
was Edwards there for this year, his impression of "Little Mary Sunshine?"
Biden wouldn't work, BTW. You're not going to get the South to return to
the Democrats with two New England yankees on the ticket.

No kidding. Sometimes I wonder if Bush didn't simply offer Carville
enough money that he went to work for Bush after changing his name
to Karl Rove.

I think Edwards is a stronger running mate than Dean. Dean is
charismatic, but alarms people with his vehemence; he comes across as
"wierd", which alienates moderate Democrats. On the other hand, Kerry
has such a hard time taking a firm stand that maybe he could use a
fanatically vehement running mate.
As a moderate Republican I have a strong interest in who the parties can
present for me in 2008; I don't think I can stay with my party unless
the moderates are successful in recapturing it from the extreme right,
and can nominate a candidate who doesn't think he's channelling God. Not
that I'm crazy about going Democratic, despite my socially liberal
leanings... although I've never loved the Libertarian party (too much
manifest destiny pseudointellectualism for my taste) it looks like that
might be my only palatable option in 2008.
Maybe we can invent a new party before then? Fiscally conservative,
socially liberal, and staunchly capitalist, but conscious of the fact
that society is as strong as the weakest of its members?
We'll see.

Actually, the democrats dont allow losers to run again. Any democrat
who loses in a presidental election is silenced forever and never
heard from again. Rumor has it that the rest of them will eat the
loser alive to gain his strength. Just think about Dukakus (or
however you spell his name), aint anyone heard from him since he lost.
Yea, I expect that the democrat cleanup crew is closing in on him as I
write this. Kerry's trying to avoid his fate by trying to stay in the
limelight, but the fact is, he'll be dead in two years. I think they
mighta already got to Edwards.
