Sal,
Are you referring to the Rasta Khan crap?
I don't see this junk usually, but I suspended
filtering trying to see what you were talking about.

Get a real newsreader and learn to filter, you won't ever see
the junk.

Well - then mark them to be ignored. It's not that hard. Newsgroups have
never been as pristine as to be totally on-topic. You are right that the OT
disclaimer should be in the subject line, but hell - it's just the way it
is. Most of the time it's there, and sometimes it's not. Then there are
the on topic threads that get dragged off topic - by even the best of those
here (just ask them, they'll tell you they are the best...). It's just how
it is. Always been that way. Not worth complaining about.

Well, today it wasn't too bad. I'm not sure how much my filters got, but
we do have several on-topic threads going on.

I wouldn't mind finding an active woodworking forum that's not segmented
into many pieces or requires something that looks like a real name. That's
what I liked about the wRECk when it was more active.

Yes, you're correct there. Forte threw everything including the
kitchen sink into Agent. I'm pretty familiar with it now, but once in
awhile I still get lost trying to find out how to do something. But,
for me it's better it's there and I don't need it, than not have the
capability when I need to do something.

Every newsgroup suffers OT stuff - it just cannot be avoided. To say that
you're only interested in a particular topic is a bit over the edge. If
that's the case, then the hard line is for you to learn how to use a
newsreader. It's not really all about you.

I don't like leaving my real name. People have no filter and say what
they want. I was surprised at how much an employer knew about me at my
interview. Very un-nerving. What people respond to you can also taken
into account as I found out. I had to answer for the responses. Again
un-nerving. You won't find my name in a group, or participating in
Facebook, or other social networking either. My friends tried to get me
to join early on. Funny how some of them pulled out for a while because
of how people can be real horses asses.

As for this being a goner, probably.. but I'm not likely to join one of
the forums. It takes too much time to got through those.

I apologize to the newsgroup for my political crap. The only excuse I have
is that I feel I should let my viewpoint be heard too (most often I reply,
not start a new thread or redirect from woodworking to poloitics.)

I use my real nickname (it's uncommon in the US), but since this is usenet,
no other easy traces. Occasionally a real email address may pop up, either
in response to a request, or to get a private response.

Also, because I retired and do not expect to have to ever apply for a job
again, I couldn't care about potential employers reading my crap they can
go ...

Well I try to avoid that. Mostly I try to keep positive and not trash

Best $30 I've spent in a long time. News, groups, save, delete,
reload, preview, messaging what I want, months back if desired, it
does it all. If I can think of something I'd like it to it, chances
are that capability is already programmed into it.

For the occasional crap program I've bought, Agent makes up for all of
them in spades.

lumberjocks.com and
sawmillcreek.org

both offer something different (than what we have here).
lumberjocks has a lot of members and they have a really huge
skill-range, maybe too huge. sawmillcreek has a classified ad and "sale
awareness" section in their forum (but you have to pay $6 a year to
access that part). If it leads you to something once a year, you surely
get your $6-worth! It pointed me to a new Delta 14" BS for $150 and,
just recently, to a 2 year subscription to Wood magazine for $9.60.

I've had a couple that posted scurrilous lies about me till they got
tired of it. Personal info is limited as I don't use Facebook or Twitter
or any social media unless you count newsgroups and Yahoo groups. I'm
sure a dedicated hacker could get into whatever files the government
might have on me (i.e. security clearances and the like) but I don't stay
awake wondering about it.

I have been known to write letters to the editor and even a few columns
for our local newspaper, so I'm more likely to find an irate local on my
doorstep. That's why God invented Smith & Wesson :-).

I keep telling people if they want a busy woodworking group, but
without all the politics, religion and swearing, then they should have
a look at the Festool Owners Group. Registration is limited to a valid
email address.

Although it's a moderated group, that moderation is pretty benign as
long as you don't get into the three taboos listed above. And, a major

But, if those limitations are also too much to bear, then the rec is
