OT: Eternal September Server users

I am currently using Eternal September and AIOE as my news readers upon the
helpful suggestions of these groups. Last week, doing the usual checking up
on the groups, I realized my "alt.home.repair" folder has vanished from my
Eternal September group. I thought I may have accidentally deleted it
somehow, but upon searching for it to re-subscribe, it doesn't appear, but
still remains in the AIOE group.

Is anyone who uses ES experiencing the same issue? What happened?

Thanks

PS, I am typing this using the ES group and just received a message that
alt.home.repair is unresolved, meaning it isn't available. Now I'm really
curious to know what happened. I will send via AIOE.

So you're good for about 60 more years. But what about after that?

I don't 'use' ES, but have it available in background. Subscriber list
still shows alt.home.repair for me.

I'm using Astraweb, and alt.home repair is fine. A couple of days ago, I
had the first similar experience in YEARS, though. Using Xnews. Only my
first group was updating. All groups were updating through ES. I
rebooted my win7 machine and all was good. I don't know what was broken,
though.

Maybe your machine needs rebooting or your OE needs fixing ...

I see no problem. alt.home.repair is available and has at least 41,000
articles available. I'm posting this from there right now, though it's
not my usual server.

It was either a temporary server problem or something's wrong on your
end.

I paid $10in June 2008 for 25GB of downloads. So far I used just over 1
GB. And they are very reliable, have great retention, and carry binaries.

They had problems on and off too when I left. Astraweb is the best.

My client appends the server hostname to the .newsrc file name
(e.g. ~/.newsrc-eternal-september.com, ~/.newsrc-news.pacbell.net)

If I look in the file on my system
that tracks articles I've read I see this:

alt.home.repair: 1-220464

That says, on alt.home.repair, I've read articles 1 thru 220464.
Those article numbers are unique to eternal-september.
If I was to switch to another server the last current article might be
higher or lower. If lower, I won't see new articles until the new
server gets to 220464.

I don't know where you got the advice to use 2 servers but if
you try to use 2 servers for the same groups you're going to have problems.

If your client does that you are still left with the problem of
seeing the exact same messages from 2 different sources.

Eternal September has been very reliable for me including alt.home.repair
for the last several years and it's working today. Don't know what the
problem is, but it's not system wide.

No such problem with E.S. here.

It's been fine for me. My only problem with E-S is that every once in a
while it'll double or triple-post (I suspect it sends back some sort of
failure code to my reader even though the post has gone through OK, and
my reader then automatically resubmits)

I just refreshed my group list via E-S and a.h.r is still showing up OK.

For problem times with ES I have also set up AIOE as an alternate. When
there is a problem posting to ES, I use AIOE.

Tonight ES will not take my post and they are going through AIOE.

Not saying I do it, that was someone else.
But if one of the feeds breaks, read the other feed, when the first one
gets going, just mark all as read, it would work, but personally Usenet
is not that critical for me, if a feed is down for a bit, I don't lose
any sleep over it.
