Quotes From Northfield
Qty 1 12-21 Jointer Shipswheel w/ wood spokes $ 494.64/ea
Qty 1 16=E2=80=9D HD Jointer Manual $ 30.00/ea
Spoke to the welding teacher, Glen, at the technical college. The students=
might can weld the cutter head guard support ($116 previously quoted) and =
ships wheel, no guarantee of the surety of the welds. =20
I've had the students do some welding before, they do a good job. These =
parts won't have major force applied when in use, so I can likely get by wi=
th a moderately professional weld for the time being. Gives the guys/girls=
some practical experience and you pay them a nice gratuity.
The guard "blade" itself is aluminum, so the advanced students can do the a=
luminum welding when classes start May 20.
I've known Glen for a long time, 12 yrs or so. When I first walked into th=
e shop, he didn't hesitate to chewed me out, royally. "YOU DON"T WALK INTO=
THIS SHOP UNLESS YOU HAVE SAFETY GLASSES ON!!!!" I won't forget that. =
He spoke loud enough for all the students to hear. No telling how often h=
e's reminded students to wear safety glasses.

I know the tech teacher from the local high school. He and his "crew"
build 2-3 backyard sheds a year as part of the class curriculum. They=20
are typically built for people he knows or by word of mouth.
The kids are involved with everything from the permitting process through
site clean-up and seeding around the shed if appropriate.
The ladies that own the house across the road from me are having one built
this spring. They are good friends with the teacher. The shed build is in=
=20
preparation for the replacement of their debilitated garage. The ladies and=
=20
the teacher are trying to convince the town and school board to let the=20
students R&R the garage too. The students have already found contractors=20
that are willing to toss in some services (heavy equipment, concrete truck,
etc.) at cost to help the kids out.
