Finally found an alternate to the continuous begging mode of my local
PBS stations, especially on weekends.
The implementation of digital TV has added many new channels for those
of us who are not cable subscribers.
Among those channels is Create which among other things shows current
NYW programs.
Don't need PBS to get my fix.
If you are interested go to
www.createtv.com
and locate the stations serving your area.
Have fun.

I've burned through 2 digital decoder boxes this year. We don't miss
it most of the time, but during football season my wife starts to get
more vocal about it when her Gators are playing. Of course, even when
we had one it was an exercise in frustration, because of the dropped
frames and audio artifacts.
We're too cheap to get cable though, so I'll probably cave in and buy
another one before too long and see how long it stays alive.

We used to get it when we lived in the Andover,Ks area. The local SE
Kansas independent cable guy keeps saying he is going to add it but
has not come through yet. Create gave us a good, rounded menu of
programming including woodworking, gardening, crafts, cooking, etc.
If local cable guy doesn't come through soon we might be switching.

They solved my "problem" for me--w/ the digital transition they
disappeared entirely...(and attempted discussion w/ engineering staff
indicates they don't much care about fringe areas even if in previous
coverage area. Conclusion must be they're adequately funded within
smaller geographic region.)

Create is carried by PBS around here. It pisses me off too, because it
is not full screen high def. NYW never was anyway, but woodsmith shop
was always super high definition with wide screen. On Create, it's half
screen and low def crap, and the shows are repeats. Same with American
Test Kitchen. Used to be full screen high def, and now, on Create, it's
low def junk, and that too is repeats. The programs for sure are
really good high def, because originally I saw the same shows that way.
