Hi everyone, I am looking for Issues for Family Handyman for Feb and March
of 1994. In particular an article On a car top sailboat. Its a nice little
plan but I can only find the third part of this project. I contacted
Readers Digest Publishing and Their back issue index only goes back the past
five years (just my luck). If somone can help me out please let me know off
list at [email protected]
TIA

Bert, try searching EBay. While Fine Woodworking has more liquidity than
any of the other mags, I've seen almost every woodworking magazine on there
at one time or another.
In fact, here is March, May and June of 1994

Can't find February for you, but keep watching.

Even though it is not available _at_ the local library, does not necessarily
mean it is not available _to_ the local library. Ask them if they have
access to the assets of another province or maybe some University library
system. Like most professionals, librarians probably enjoy a challenge. I
bet if you ask them nice, they will be happy to show how deeply they can dig
to get the information you seek.
Also check some of the boatyards etc. Try: rec.boats.building.
Send Family Handyman an email and see if they could send you a Xerox of that
article. If they don't have a back-issue to sell you, I bet they have a
file copy they could copy for you.
Good Luck!

*TALK* to a librarian.
Even if the local library doesn't subscribe and have their own back
issues, they may be able to get it for you.
Ask about "inter-library loan".
Bert,
Check your local library. Talk to the "Information or Periodical
Librarian". With the information you've provided us, they should be able to
come up with that article from their back issues on site or order copies
from their main library or a member library of whatever inter-library loan
system they are associated with. Heck, your tax $$$ has already paid for
the libraries and the information within. May as well fill out some little
form and have them dig up the info for you. Generally, there is no charge
at all for this service. Years back, I have been charged postage for a
postcard to be mailed to me when the info has been received at my library.
I suppose these days it is scanned and attached as a PDF file then e-mailed?
You have no idea what those inter-library loan systems can get for you.
absolutely amazing! Just because you may not see it on the shelf does not
mean they do not have it or can not get it (or a copy of it). Funny thing,
all the _copies_ I've received this way, come with a message rubber stamped
on the _copy_ of the front page of the article regarding copyrights,
copyright laws and copying etc. Maybe is ok for them to copy for me but not
for me to copy for you? Whatever, I get many of those old, missing articles
this way. Give it a try. The price is right!
Good luck!
