Evening All,
I saw a post in A.B.P.W. of one members photograph and I was thinking it
would be nice to attach a face to so many other members names.
I have no idea how to accomplish this task, after all I am just a lowly
hawker of tools to the masses and not a computer guy, but I was wondering if
someone could set up a home page for rec.woodworking where we could post our
bio's, pic's of our ugly mugs, links to our home pages, etc, in some sort of
Database thingy. We all know how big Keef's outfeed table is, how colourful
Sigh's furniture is, how much of a curmudgeon Charlie can be, that Steve's
saw looked better in its camo doo, that BAD cannot be as bad as his porn
shots, but just how ugly are these guys?
Anyone wanna setup set a page?
Thanks,
David.

not that it matters, or i'm saying it "has to be so" but i made a
rec-woorworking yahoogroup for this very purpose a while ago..
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rec-woodworking/
it became significantly less useful when yahoo decided to make all
file areas "members only". (grumble grumble grumble)
so at least something exists.
it's still good for a links depository... they havn't shut that areas
off to non members. (it currently only links to my list of
links...)
Note that the messages area is effectively turned off since i didn't
want to draw people away from here.
ah well..
there it is.

Guys, feel free to read/post trough
http://www.diyprojects.info/bb/forum1.html woodworking forum - it
supports poster pics (avatars), the important posts (FAQs etc.) can
be made "sticky" and appear on top of the message lists, you can post

Interesting idea - you might include commonly asked questions, tips
and techniques, and of course, pictures of the CABAL. Well, maybe not
the last one... ;-)
I currently run mail and web servers off of a 3mb line, and serve two
sites off of it, but they are low demand sites - one is personal and
one is for business. I can serve multimedia video as well.
So...
I have the resources, and would be willing to donate the storage space
and bandwidth, but I would NOT be willing to pay for the domain name.
It isn't expensive, however.
Unless you want the site to point to www.thevideodoc.com, someone
would have to pony up the $$ for a domain that isn't registered
already. I register my multiple domains every three years.
Prices on domains with my registrar:
Plan 1 yr
---------------------------
.com $8.95
.info $6.95
.us $4.95
.net $8.95
.org $8.95
.biz $4.95
.ws $9.99
.name $9.95

In short - supply & demand. For each suffix (or TLD, top level domain)
there is a main/central registrar who sets a wholesale price for other
registrars and then the latter decide how they want to price at retail, as
well as what features they may offer as a package. Why in NY do some
people want to hold onto a 212 area code? Why do some people crave
designer labels?

In my case, just put up a photo of Tom Sellick. We look almost like twins.
You can hardly tell us apart, but Tom has a little more hair and it is not
quite as gray. Tom is a tad taller, maybe 5 or 6 inches. Tom is also a bit
slimmer than I. Otherwise you can't tell us apart.
As I was saying, before I got into woodworking, I was working as a test

IMO recwoodworking.us sounds a little exclusionary for any of our non

Interesting. When I first saw that, I was thinking it would be
fine. I took the "us" as meaning all of us, as in a group, no matter
what country you're in. Didn't take it as meaning the States. Being as
it's not caps, I'd still be willing to go along with it, if it's taken
as meaning we're all of a group, no matter where we're located at. But,
I've got no problem with if thatt's not satisfactory with the rest of
you. Maybe it could be changed to something like
rec.woodworking.all.of.us LOL
Here's the link to my home page, which has a glamour shot of me.
http://community-2.webtv.net/Jakofalltrades/JOAT/
For those of you who've seen it before, been major changes all
around. For one, i have the contents listed on a separate page, so this
is all you can get to. LMAO
Used to have all the pages, cross-linked, so if you had access to one
page, you had access to all. Now only one or two pages are cross-linked
to another page. Makes for easier maintenance (read adding links I'm
interested in), and cuts down on comments from people wanting me to
change things, so it'll be easier for them to access. Hah!
Someone posted something about project, or shop, so here's the link
to mine. http://community-2.webtv.net/Jakofalltrades/STUFFMADEPAINTED/

I assumed .us meant the US just as .tw means Taiwan, .au means
Australia, etc... If it's understood .us means us as in all of us, I
say go for it. The whole idea sounds good to me.

Yeah, but I kept walking into the damn thing while it was running and
losing limbs.
What about your picture from Halloween holding the MOARC's* with the hot
chick in the black dress? Don't worry so much about your part of the
picture but the black dress part probably wouldn't raise any objections...

In the interim, if you want to see my mug, go to...

BTW, don't everybody do it all at once. It's a free website so there's not a
lot of bandwidth.
Suggestion: If any of you want, just send your mugshot to me I will include
it on my shop page.
How cool is that?

If we have any members who run a pro site and would give us server
space, we could "buy" a domain name for (?) about 70 bucks for 2
years.
I did this site for the acoustic guitar newsgroup, it's been a lot of
fun. Susan's been maintaining it for some time now, as I've been
devoting spare time to ww, and don't get around there much anymore.

Close. I have the graying hair. I hope I never have senatorial bearing. Don't
wear Izod, and Land's End doesn't make a pair of britches in my waist size.
Tall is relative. Got a BIL who is 5" taller than I am, but he's about 6'6".

$13 per year. I just got one for a client last month. He's
hosted on another site and wanted the extra domain name, so
both are linked to the physical site.

Popularity, supply and demand, status...
No difference otherwise, other than the possibility of people missing
the site because they are unaccustomed to (for instantce) typing .info
instead of .com.
They all works the same...

Why would I want to post my mug shot? Who cares about my appearance?
Personally, I'd much rather see shots of various stages of a project.
Maintaining a rec.woodworking web site is a great idea, although there
is maintenance involved. I'd gladly do it (yes I'm an IT guy) if I
were paid in board feet !

I don't get over here to post much but I would be willing to put up a
subdomain.. something like woodworking.construction-resource.com (not
active). Or whatever the collective chooses.
Could setup a content management system where everyone could post articles,
tips, FAQ, etc.. as mentioned in earlier posts.
If that interests yall just email me at builder AT construction-resource DOT
com
