OT: Sergeant Timothy Voss just spoke with his family on Christmas Day, but the next call they got was the kind no family wants to hear.

Sergeant Voss was serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq.

His family was told he was traveling in a Humvee with three other soldiers
on Friday when a roadside bomb exploded.

One soldier was killed.

Voss was transferred to a hospital in Germany.

He suffered second- and third-degree burns over 30 percent of his body.

The burns caused his heart to go into cardiac arrest and his kidneys to
fail.

Loved ones are hopeful that the husband and father they know will recover.

Belinda Voss, Timothy's mother, said, "There's no words. There aren't any
words. ... He'll be... not home, but, back here... where it's safe."

"We need a lot of prayer in the next few weeks. That's all we hope for. He's
got a long, long road."

In addition to Iraq, Sergeant Voss has also done tours of duty in Kosovo and
Afghanistan.

Soon he will be transferred to a center in San
