I would suggest that you don't use it as a cutting board. Walnut has
toxins that over long periods of exposure can harm you.

Always wear a good dust mask when cutting Walnut.

So you've made a cutting board, but you don't know how you made it?

I can't help you there, chief!

all wood has long term exposure issues.
however. . .

Walnut is not, repeat, NOT toxic as used for serving vessels.

it is however toxic to horses when used for bedding, and also its
toxic when used as mulch for plants.

i would say, use a dust mask for any sanding, cutting, machining of
lumber. however i don't follow my own advice on this one except when
doing alot of sanding.

Posts like this really make me question our educational system.

You tell me, you're the one that made it.

I've made lots of "cutting boards" based on my brash and flagrant dismissal
of the "measure twice; cut once" rule. Nothing like taking great pains to
measure and cut a piece of stock that needs to be 18-13/64 inches long only
to find you spent all your time on the 13/64 part and forgot to double-check
the 18 part. That's a quick recipe for a 17-13/64 inch "cutting board".

I just have to wonder if you:
a) Have a problem with sentence structure
or
b) Are heavily into smoking certain herbal substances

If the answer is "a", there are finishes made for salad bowls that will
work, or just plain mineral oil from the drug store.

If the answer is "b", roll another and enjoy the board as it is in the
natural state. Embrace it for what it is and don't try to change it. Can
you feel the love?

Might I suggest that you only use this board for cutting dry stuff like
bread. Walnut isn't a particularly close-grained wood, so effectively
disinfecting it may turn out to be a problem - i.e., don't place animal
products, like meats and cheeses on it. A better wood selection for a
true cutting board would be hard maple or birch.

Do you have large gaps in your memory?
Do weeks go by without leaving any impression?
Do you start projects without knowing anything? Not even whether you started
them?
Do you have a long beard?

Use Behlen's salad bowl finish--and don't drink any.
