OT: Al little

Is California the D.C. of the west coast?

As we all know, government wants to run our lives because those in
government are more intelligent than us and we need to be looked after.

I suppose that because some are not so smart these days the California
government has mandated a rather generic warning label that seems to
appear on most anything that you could purchase. Apparently the
government has decided that a one size fits all approach will work for
the masses. We certainly can't be bothered with details that might
require some of to think and we all know that big government does not
want us to think.

So any way, back on point, with much more frequency, I way over here in
Texas, am seeing more and more of the warning labels that target the
people in California that rely on the government to protect them and do
their thinking. IIRC many years back I saw that grilling in your back
yard causes cancer. Right there on the charcoal bag was the "generic"
warning label pointing out that fact. I always thought that the
cigarette warning labels and TV adds for the past umpteen years would be
enough indication that breathing in smoke was not good for you.
Apparently some did not make the understand that charcoal smoke is
probably going to pose the same risk and the government had to step in
to help those people make the connection.

So lately with much more frequency I am seeing this same generic warning
label on other products which are reaching other parts of the country.
I am a bit concerned as to how much the government thinks we are going
to swallow. A couple of weeks ago I bought a new lawn spronkler, yep
there was the label. In some unidentified manner this lawn sprinkler
has been identified as a possible cause of cancer in California.
Strange,,,, my new sprinkler is a brightly painted color but certainly
does not glow in the dark. Shockingly a few days ago I bought a few
sets of brass quick connect and disconnects for my yard sprinklers and
hoses. Yup there was the warning label also, might cause cancer in
California.

Now to get on topic for this group. As many of you know, I have been
hunting and gathering information for a replacement miter gauage for my
TS. Oddly I have to rule out several right away because right there on
the box is that warning label, may cause cancer in California.

Be careful California, I see in the near future cancer warning signs on
street corners reminding you that driving your gasoline powered car is
going to cause cancer. Just wait till the government realizes that the
electric cars will pose the same hazards as there ise aluminum and brass
parts in just about everything being manufactured these days. Don't get
me started on the chemicals in those large batteries.

Before this gets totally out of hand, the people of California should
require the government to mandate a warning label to be placed on your
candidates running for a government office. You know, a warning label
to help identify which candidates are going to be harmful or a threat to
your health, economy, and or ability to make decisions for your self,
etc. There could be countless categories of warning labels.

There could be the "I'ma fast talker that skirts the issues and does not
directly answer any question" label.

There could be the "I'ma a shyster that will warn you that when I say I
am going to change things all I am really going to change is whose
pockets gets filled with your tax dollars" label.

There could be the I'ma no morals adulteress that your children are
going to look up to and I am going to let them know that is OK to cheat
on my spouse and that trying some AC/DC action in the dark allies is OK
too, label.

And there could be the I'ma better than you and deserve a better
retirement plan, health plan, and more time off, label.

Do you think those labels would be more helpful?

Good idea but, as most politicians are to slimy to get anything to stick, a
tattoo would be the only way. No electric tattoo guns. Pointy stick (wood
working content) and bottle of ink.

Cancer is created in California. Most substances do not cause cancer
anywhere else.

It is very very easy, my friend.

You simply ASK what "convention" is.. that is

The latter allows you to argue why YOUR post is

But no.. it is far more self important to you that
you get to say your two bits! Stuff that has been said

AS said.. it is Old, so OLD.

The world is a lot bigger than your yesterday, Bud.
Your POV has been argued and tossed out many
many times.

Whether you agree or not the medium was designed

proof of that information.
All that is said can be searched and read.. by those
who do want to know and not just "chat along".

"Spooling" allows a data base to be made.
This group is archived, on just one server I use, for four
years. You would have it that the group
information on how to make a mortice and tenet is
bastardised by whole strings of gibberish posts from
poorly formatted WLM (MOE) wankers, thus forcing me to
ask the question yet again "What is Mortice and Tenet
and how do I get a tight fit?
Is that your view of "far easier"??

You are asking simple users to make complex posts.
How about you guys walk before running and simply
do the best to get threads running that do make sense
in how they "flow". The other more complex methods
can grow from everyone being on the same page.
Now there is an idea..!

And Leon..?.. you been suckered, Bud.
Whois "Eric"?
Turned up in a heartbeat, has at least two of
you dickheads "at it" and YOU, Bud, You are
hand-feeding the jolly roger into your OWN arse..!

Google/Deja says Eric has made just 12 posts
in "IT's" life. all of them to <r.w> and <r.c.m>.
Groups IT knows are ripe with suckers.

Checkout the "From" Eric is posting.
Say it slow, Leon.. "sch" "no" "ball".
Lights coming on yet?

C'mon Leon.. THINK.. there is only ONE
who is up to that brand of behavior in <r.w>

No, only the beer, air, water, soil, ink, paper, paper mills, and
adhesive. The peanuts are only the distributor of aflatoxins,
tuberculosis, hepatitis, dengue, leprosy, malaria, chagas, and HIV
from the pickers.

Enjoy them!

I take a multi vitamin tablet daily
I don't try to get a tan in the Summer. Actually, I cover up in the
Summer, including a hat, unless swimming, where I only wear a Tee shirt
and swim trunks.
Although I am of Northern European descent (Northern Ireland and
Germany), my skin is darker year round than is my wife's skin, who is of
Southern European descent, i.e. Italian, including part Sicilian.

I suppose,,, or it could be that the other 49 states would not pitch in
to have their state listed on the label. With limited space on the
label there could be a bidding war going on to see who gets to be on and
who gets left off of the label. Looks like so far the California
government has paid top dollar to be on the list... Does that sound
about right? ;!)

Microsoft didn't invent Usenet. They only provide many free tools for the
masses to support it and make it work. They also tend to lead the masses in
ideas most of the time.

Eric is correct. Usenet is dying very quickly due to nasty POS people that
go out of their way to make it unpleasant for people to use it. Anybody with
half an eye open here can see that quite easily unless they are too
old...LOL

Do you have to be old to make bad guesses about people without any basis
like an old fool?

I may be too old to cut the mustard but I can still lick the hell out of the
jar.

You would have benefited from reading up on these labels before speculating
about them. It was the *voters* of Calif. who approved Prop. 65 which seeks
to keep toxic chemicals out of the state's water supply and prevent exposure
to such chemicals by consumers without fair warning (thus the warning
labels).

Prop. 65 has actually been quite successful in causing mfg. to reformulate
products to get rid of the dangerous chemicals or to otherwise keep
consumers from coming into contract with them. On the other hand the
warning labels are so common that they have tended to fade into the
background and be ignored, and as always some scumbag lawyers have found
ways to milk the situation by filing lawsuits supposedly on behalf of
clients but really to soak up legal fees for the lawyers.

However you are free to ignore any and all warning labels if you please, so
if you want to use toluene for mouthwash and take all the safety guards off
your power tools that is your right--good luck.

The wording of the statute is such that there are severe penalties if
there is no warning and no downside other than the price of the ink or
label for affixing a warning, so the warning gets put on everything on
general principle, regardless of whether there is any reason to believe
that any of the forbidden substances is present. Better to spend a
couple of bucks a year printing irrelevant warnings on the label than
hundreds of thousands on a legal defense.

It's far _worse_ than that.

California has "citizen's initiatives", whereby *anything* can get put
on the ballot, and approved by the voters, is enacted into law.

*REGARDLESS* of the sanity, or lack thereof, of the proposal.

_That_ is, in fact, where all the Calif. warning notices come from.

One such citizens initiative required the cancer warning notice on any
object sold in California that had _any_ amount (_one_ atom's worth,
in a hundred ton object is sufficient to require the warning) of any
material that is a 'known' carcinogen.

Hence, you find the warning on step-ladders, hammers, etc.

It is virtually to find _any_ manufactured object for sale in California
without that warning label. As such, the warnings are useless, and actually
have a -negative- value, since things with a 'significant' risk factor are
indistinguishable from the vast swamp of things with an absolutely
insignificant/immaterial, (but not absolutely zero) risk.

The 'appropriate' response to this kind of enforced silliness is for
manufacturers to to provide 'yet another' warning label. Same type
face, font size, same coloration, same overall-size, etc., that states:

Mortality rate for
those who never use
this product:

100%

Since this _is_ factually true, the government _cannot_ suppress
the printing of that information. <*EVIL* grin>

Not from a movie, oh Pythenoid. From one of the very early episodes on
BBC.
It is also cut # 14 on the CD Monty Python Sings.

I guess so. I can't remember having heard it until late 2010.

It's the new 'Have a Nice Day' of the little whatever-colored ribbon

It's entirely politically correct, too, don'tcha know?

Should have read "without ridiculous warning labels". Fair label would be a
stretch of the imagination.

I think the latter is the more prevelant side effect of this legislation.

Well that sounds like the real reason, we see them here in Texas too and
I greatly suspect the labels are literally seen every where in the U.S.

They're seen all over the world. Look at your warning labels. They're
all written in English, French, AND Spanish, if not German, Swahili,
Japanese, and Chinese.

When I left, California was printing voter's pamphlets and ballots in
26 different languages. I think they pared that down to a dozen now.

I live here and the ridiculous borders on insane, no it is insane. The state
is controlled by Democrats and that should give you the answer. The biggest
problem here is the 2 largest cities control who will win most elections.
San Francisco and Los Angeles. Both filled with 100% liberals or Mexicans.
The rest of the state pretty much votes Republican but the numbers aren't
there to win. Also I've read 6,000 a week are moving or leaving California
for greener pastures. Watch out US some that are moving out are moderates
and infiltrating the rest of the country with their agenda.

Two of what I think are the most ridiculous legislation in the state.
Black Cars, Black Paving Asphalt, and Dark colored Shingles would be
outlawed because they would contribute to Global Warming. New Wood Burning
Fireplaces in New Homes are now outlawed. Not sure if Natural Gas Logs set
up is still legal.

Not sure how much longer I can endure California. The weather is the only
thing that keeps me here. Todays high 76

I rather suspect that some in government have concluded that large
numbers of us (including some in government) are unable or unwilling to
think :-). I come to that conclusion several times a day. I could fill
several pages with anecdotes about drivers, retail clerks, reporters,
etc..

And yet they encourage those folks to vote. Could it be that they've
discovered that stupid voters are easier to manipulate? Naaaah, couldn't
be.

Too much sun causes cancer.

=====================

...and too little sun causes cancer statistics to increase dramatically due
to Vit D3 deficiency. The sun exposure was phoney hype based on invalid
conclusions back in the 60s. Mind you burning the crap out of your skin can
cause cancer (increase chances)

And here I though nothing Pythonian was obscure..to wit:

Orchestra
Leader:A-one, two, a-one two three four
Leader: Half a bee, philisophically,
Must ipso facto half not be.
But half a bee has got to be
Vis a vis it's entity.
-d'you see?
But can a bee be said to be
Or not to be an entire bee,
When
half the bee is not a bee,
Due to some ancient injury.
-Singing!...
All sing: La di di, one two three,
Eric the Half a Bee.
A B C D E F G,
Eric the Half a Bee.
Leader: Is this wretched demi-bee,
Half asleep upon my knee,
Some freak from a menagerie?
All yell: No! It's Eric the Half a Bee.
All sing: Fiddle di dum, fiddle di dee,
Eric the Half a Bee.
Ho ho ho, tee hee hee,
Eric the Half a Bee.
Leader: I love this hive employ-ee-ee,
Bisected accidentally,
One summer's afternoon by me,
I love him carnally.
All sing: He loves him carnally...
Leader: Semi-carnally.
(speaks)
The End.
Voice: Cyril Connolly?
Leader: No, semi-carnally.
Voice: Oh.
All sing: (Quietly)
Cyril Connolly

Not a bad idea Eric, it is all there any way. You simply can not be a
mind reader as to whom you think will be reading your post and what
their particular pet peeve will be. Seems to me it would be far easier
if you are keeping up with a thread to simply read the replay instead of
having to scroll down to a post, snipped or not.

Now if there is a particular question asked and answered it makes since
to include the pertinent details from the previous post and mix up the
replay to each section of the post.

======================

The newsreaders can sort it all out, thread it and keep track of what post
it was in response to. People should be able to, also, given all the
electronic organizing done for us.

Pertinent reference materials would be included below as in any good
technical document but then that would be top-posting and the cry-baby
posting purists trolls, and the rest of the sheeple would have a shit-fit
about it until Usenet is completely dead. It will die eventually, anyway,
without maturity and policing. The trolls love the open playground and pride
themselves in various editorial techniques to destroy Usenet one group at a
time, unfortunately. We don't learn fast enough and the trolls improve each
year.

Sure if the old farts try hard enough they can drive everybody away with

You would think an old fart would have a few more manners online after so

No, only the beer, air, water, soil, ink, paper, paper mills, and

You mean you are the only other real person out there?

Ah, you betcha!

See? It's all your fault in the first place.

Sure, except for those 250 line posts with the 1 line replies last
week. You and Leon traded those from 80 on up to nearly 300 lines with
nary a snip. Pissed off us kings, it did.
