Would Someone Edumacate me about crossposting,

What is it how is it accomplished,

I'm not a usenet wizard and some one sent me a private e-mail and asked me
to stop crossposting,
I replyed back and asked him to explain he has yet to answer my reply.

Have i something not set right on my computer or the way I am signed up with
usenet.
Rec ww is the only usenet I am on.

...I have never seen a cross-post in this NG that had anything to do with
woodworking...puppies, Jewish stuff and just plain crap but no woodworking.

If I hit the reply group and see more than one NG, I simply cancel and move
on. No sense feeding those that include this NG with their other unrelated
BS.

Cross posting is - as you surmise - posting a single message to more than
one group.
If you're using Outlook Express, then when you hit "Reply Group" you might
see more than one newsgroup in the "Newsgroups:" line. Simply mouse-up
there and delete all but the rec.woodworking group.

Unless the posts contain file attachments, don't worry about it. Tell them
to go scratch!

Well I thank you all, I will look at my sent mail folder and see if I have
missed whether there was more that one news group
In the reply,
Will try to be more cautious

Next time you reply to a post, look at the To: line at the top - if
the original post was crossposted, your reply will be, too. You can edit
the To: line to elimidacate the crossposts.

Scott, helpful as ever

That someone (myself),also sent a message replying to the "free wood" you had
to unload. I'm in Tucson, and you're in Mesa. Do you still have the lumber?
Thanks. Tom

I wouldn't fret over it. There are some people who spent their days looking
for crossposts and top-posts. IMHO, a varient of the common, garden variety
troll.

Cross-posting has it's value at times. I could see questions about a lathe
going to a couple of groups, for example.
