Hi, Is there a nail-set for corrugated nails? I have heard that Stanley
makes one. Is this true? If so, where in the Bay Area, can I find one? I
am making a pie safe out of Pondersosa Pine...thanks .Robert
Who knows? Sounds like you didn't check google. Which bay, by the
way, Hudson?
My grandfather was what people today would claim is a master
carpenter. He was good enough anyway. As I recall, the only way I ever
saw him set corrugated nails, was with a regular nail set. That's when
he set them, didn't always.
If you want one bad enough, easy enough to make one. Slot a bolt
or something, set in a corrugated nail, and braze or weld. Probably JB
Weld would work. Seems like a lot of bother tho.

Stanley used to make them. I don't know if they still do...they seem to list
only regular nailsets.
I've got one somewhere, probably last used it sometime in the mid or late '80s,
and then reformed, went "Norm" and used brads in from top and bottom corner
edges. Of course, that was before Norm came on the scene, or at least before I
ever saw him.

Robert,
I think I have one. It is made by Stanley and I bought it to set
corrugated fastners that were about an 1" wide. Is that the kind you
are talking about?
If it is I will send this one to you. Send me your address to

Yeah, but he MUST mean Barnegat Bay because that is the one I know.
Ed
Stanley did make them, have one in the shop. I'm far from the Bay (NM)
so no idea who by you may carry them. They are about 1½"x2½"x½" thick
roughly, housing is aluminum and the set bar is a steel rectangle that
slides inside the housing. They work great too.

Only according to the arrogant bastards that live there. It's like people
that say things like "twin cities". Where the hell is that? They seem to
think that because it is well known to them, it should be well known to the
rest of the world.
Wrong.

And Bay area is 'round the Bay in Newfoundland, like outside of St.
John's. Not that I would ever think that BAD monkey is a Newf. Too
much money and not enough sense to qualify.

I'm getting a bit confused here. Are we talking a corrugated nail
set? Or, a corrugated nail driver?
My grandfather drove corrugated nails in with a hammer. Then, if
he wanted to set it, that is, to drive it below the surface of the wood,
he used a regular small nail set.
On the other hand, somewhere along the line, I've come across a
corrugated nail driver. This is a rectangular thing of metal, you put
the corrugated nail in it, then used a hammer to hit a protuding piece
of metal. This drives the corrugated nail into the wood, but does not
"set" it, that is doesn't drive it below the surface of the wood. That
seems to be what some of you are referring to as a corrugated nail set.
Thinking more on it, I don't know if I've ever heard of a
corrugated nail set, that is something that would drive a corrugated
nail below the surface of the wood.

You're right. I had a giant brain fart, mine is a driver. A dull chisel
as suggested would probably make a handy 'set' tool.
BTW, there is only one "Bay Area" - San Francisco Bay Area

I don't live there but I do know where the "bay area" is. I'm pretty sure the
"Big Apple" is New York City.
The "Big Easy" is New Orleans, the "Windy City" is Chicago. Oh yes, the "Twin
