The DW735 has two feed rates, one at 96 CPI at the slower feed rate and the
second at 79 CPI at the faster feed rate. Your DW734's single speed has a cut
rate of 96 CPI, so the DW735's best output would be the same as your planer.

The two speeds for the DW735 are 96 CPI and 76 CPI. See:

You're not going to believe a press release, are you? ;-)
I took a look at a number of different sites and most list the speeds you
indicate. There are only a few that list the speeds as I indicated by citing
the DeWalt figures on their web site. I've sent an email to DeWalt's tech
support to find out what the actual speeds are. When I here from them, I'll
post the information.

I received a reply from DeWalt concerning their DW735 speeds. Here is their
reply:
"The correct information is 96 and 179, it is a misprint on our web site and we
are working to get that fixed."

Congrats! I just uncrated my DW733. I'd given up on getting one at Lowes
clearance price of $239 when the last one went at my local Lowes. Today, a
week or so later, I happened to stop in the Lowes by work and there it was,
the last one :)
Unlike others, I couldn't get the manager down to $199 but at $239, it is
still a great price. Just to see what it could do, I fed it 8" wide maple
talking 1/8" cuts and it slowed a bit but made the cut. I'm very pleased.
I made my cuts at 12 1/4" wide and 1/32 deep and It almost killed the motor.
Brand new blades BTW. I think the blade set is screwy.

I have the DW734, as I could not pony up the extra $100+ to get the 735.
However, blade setup is same. Wood comes out SLICK with very little to no
sanding required. The 735 finishing speed is twice that of the 734, so I
cannot even imagine the final feel. Let us know your experience with the
735..

Yellow is addicting isn't it? I recently bought a non-yellow tool. The
first thing I had to get over was how it wouldn't go with all the yellow
hand tools in my shop. Dewalt knows what they are doing.

I was getting burned out on all the gray and yellow tools so I went
out and bought a red drill thingie. Man, you cannot imagine how
radical that color is among the yellow...

That is one of several *TYPO* ERRORS in the description on the web-site.
96 and 179 are the _correct_ values.
(cutterhead rpm * 3 blades / linear feed rate)

Gotta be a typo as it makes no sense! The manual and this from the Dewalt
site(cut and pasted) says the following;
(not second paragraph)
Press Release
New DEWALT Thickness Planer Features Three Blades, Two Speeds for One Great
Finish
BALTIMORE, Sept. 2003 - DEWALT has introduced a new two-speed benchtop
thickness planer with fan-assisted chip ejection, automatic carriage lock,
and a unique three-knife cutter head that produces an extra smooth finish
with virtually no snipe.
Designed for skilled woodworkers, millwork specialists, professional cabinet
shops and furniture makers, the DEWALT DW735 is a 13-inch planer that
combines a two-speed gearbox with a three-knife cutter head to remove
material at 96 or 179 cuts-per-inch, nearly double the rate of current units
on the market.
The two-speed setting features a "dimensioning" speed for faster material
removal, and a "finishing" speed for a slower final pass to avoid tear-out,
even on tough-to-plane figured woods.
To minimize the board movement that causes snipe, the DW735 has a built-in
carriage lock that engages automatically when the wood is in place, so
there's no lever to raise and lower before each pass. In addition, the DW735
has a solid 19 ¾-inch cast aluminum base that provides twice the rigidity of
traditional folding tables for maximum material support.

The unit itself selects the 'finish' speed for 179cpi at Speed Selector
position "1" rather than "2" as is stated in the manual. It seems as tho the
Speed Selector conforms to actual speed/cpi designation. It is an
unbelievably smooth finish at either setting but noticeably better at
179cpi(pos "1") At first pass I noticed an apparent 'mark' indicating
sniping action but could not feel or measure any. Once the docs are
straightened out it will be nice but from what little experience I have with
this and any planer, this is one NICE piece of iron(and plastic)! The typos
are, at least to me, still unsettling!
