A new and different job

So it has been slow this year other than the non profit building I have
been doing. A few weeks ago a customer asked me to build a podium for
the Knights of Columbus organization that he belongs to. They had a
KofC plaque hand carved/painted and I also attached that to the podium.
The podium is made with solid white oak and cherry plywood. Old Masters
gel varnish.

It saddens me to envision this fine piece of work sitting on a beat up folding table.

I like the straight, square edges on it. Nice, clean, flat lines.
I've always liked that and do it on many of my projects.

Too many people would be tempted to route the edges with an ogee or cove.
Those types of edge profiles just always scream "high school shop class"
to me.

Agreed, I used to decorate edges and corners but mostly now feel it is
used to draw attention away to a glaring detail.

Of course there has to be one pedant in the audience. What you made
certainly looks nice. A nice lectern that is. Using it as a podium, which
would require standing on it might be more than a bit clumsy and would
almost certainly scratch the finish.
