I would agree on the custom design...and that is why I am asking the
original question for ideas.
Interesting about the lower space being less usefull...it seems to be
wasted in most designs I have seen.
Any woodworking sites that discuss cabinetry designs besides the ones
mentioned so far?

A while back (Sept 2008) someone finished up a "sewing desk" and make
photos available either via link here on abpw, that made a strong
impresion on me, and someone else built a sewing center with drawers
that would open from either end which also seems worth (another) look.
Perhaps one or both of these guys will repost...

The term "sewing stuff" is a little vague here. Having just run through a
similar drill with workbenches, my suggestion would be to design based on
your precise needs.
BTW, from what I have read, all of that space Under the table (at your link)
is not as convenient as space above (front, sides, and behind) the table.

-----------
Maybe it has less value per square foot--due, in part, to the stooping
required.
How much use of it you make may depend on how much space you really need,
and numerous
other considerations such as your height, the volume of work being done, the
amount of
shelf space you have available. Arriving at a great design takes a lot of
work, I think. Surely, borrowing
ideas from those that have come before you is a great idea. I would search
for images at google.
Good luck!
