No. After looking at them in the store, and observing nicks, burrs, and poorly
made brazes on the Chinese bits, I wasn't about to try them.

I read what he wrote. I've used the bits. No, they are not Whiteside, they
may not be the regular Woodcraft, but for $5, they are not a bad bit for
many uses. They do have the Woodcraft logo on them though. I bought some
when they had the first sale, I bought some when they had the second sale,
and I wish I had bought a few more.

My statement stands. Five of the $5 bits will outlast one $25 bit. The
ones I have are NOT visibly flawed (maybe I just got lucky) and they made
clean cuts. I have a 3/8" core box bit from Whiteside for $25+ and one for
$5. Yes, the Whiteside bit is longer, can reach deeper, is better made.
But I used the cheap bit, cut about 180 lineal feet of groove (3/8" depth
in two or more passes) with it. While it is starting to slow down, I'm not
quite ready to toss it and when I do, I'll not shed a tear. --

Correct. The good news is that five of the $5 bits will outlast one $25
bit. I have the same design bit from the cheap Woodcraft and a Whiteside.
No comparison, but the $5 bit got the job done then I tossed it.

Of course, that assumes that the el cheapo bits are actually useable
and produce aceptable results.

Note, however, that despite what Woodcraft *implies* in their advertising (but
is careful not to *state*), these bits are *not* their regular bits being sold
at a discount, but rather a different batch from a different source.

Woodcraft's regular bits are made in Taiwan, and of fairly decent quality. The
$5 bits are made in Communist China, and some are visibly flawed. You get what
you pay for IMO.
