Canadian Tire is a chain of stores that handle tools, automotive,
outdoors, etc. An old slogan used to be "There's a lot more to Canadian
Tire than tires"
The "couple" were the creation of the company's last ad firm... an
insipid late 30's/early 40's couple with no personality and a
snot-nosed kid in early pubescence who had probably found Dad's stash
of porn in the garage attic that shilled CT stuff like compressor kits
and combo wrenches to their idiot neighbors.
All in all, it was a pathetic TV ad campaign and those of us north of
the 49th will be cracking a beer in celebration of their demise.
To put it in perspective, when my wife got home from work today, I said
"Did you hear that CanadianTire finally killed that stupid couple?" and
she said " Are they going to televise it? Woohoo!"
She was disappointed when I told her that as far I knew there was no
ACTUAL public execution. And I do so hate to disappoint her.

But-but-but... I found it on the Interweb, it MUST be true!
;-)
Your version makes more sense coming from Frank.

Hmm... I always remembered this as "Talking about music is like
dancing about architecture - Frank Zappa"
A quick Googling reveals quite a few variations, as well as a few
different attributions... Elvis Costello and Steve Martin to name
two.

Rick Mercer's parody of CTC's Yarderizer was pretty funny.
http://www.cbc.ca/mercerreport/backissues.html
November 8 2004
The theme song was: "Don't Start With Me"
I have a feeling many Canadians, like me, would dive for the remote when those
commercials would come on the air.
I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but when I do, I sure as hell don't want to be
bombarded by those ads.
This is funny too:

Beethoven was so deaf that every time he was playing the piano, he
thought he was painting.

If you can find the video of Rick Mercer demonstrating the Canvasser
Prod as the Canadian Tire guy, watch it.
Tom: What's that Bob?
Bob: It's an electric Canvasser Prod, new from Canadian Tire.
Tom: Canvassser Prod? How's that work?
Bob: Just like a cattle prod, just 700 more volts.
bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt!!!!!
