This is accomplished on the PC by putting on a much smaller blade AND
increasing the plunge by about 1 additional inch.
Can you make your DeWalt do that?

Well, I do not think that it does, more importantly IIRC the DeWalt cannot
be set to plunge and extra inch over the "20" setting to allow a small blade
to reach the wood. The working of the PC Plate Joiner are more articulate
than the DeWalt. The PC has normal plunge settings for the regular biscuit
sizes but when you remove the bottom plate and change to a smaller blade you
also adjust a lever that allows the tool to plunge about 1" farther than
normal.
