I have a lot of air tools and a brad nailer but I have never owned a
framing nailer. I bought a used Paslode F350S online for home use. I
drove eight nails and it worked fine. My concern is what may be an air
leak. When air is connected to the gun it continuously vents air from
the exaust port. Is this normal? If not what kind of money are we
talking for repair? The gun was decribed as in good operational
condition so I am willing to talk to the seller if need be.

Google
Paslode framing repair kit
I see one guy offering kits for $25.

I've a re-engineered (for fence wire staples) Hauboldt staple
gun that sometimes does that after a partial misfire, it may
have to do with the piston not fully retracting - on that gun
disconnecting and reconnecting the air hose fixes the venting.
Usually I also have to open the gun and pull a crumpled staple
out at that point. No idea what it really is that causes this
venting though.
As for framing nailers, I've both used Paslodes and Sencos and
never had a problem like you describe. Sounds fishy to me.

No it's not normal. Most likely an O ring problem but could be more.
Check online for a owners manual or something that will show you the
parts and the list. Also check to see if you have a local Paslode
dealer that can point you to a repair shop. If the repair is an O
ring you might be able to replace it yourself or if not the cost would
be minimal. OTOH if you have parts banging around in there it could
be quite a bit more expensive to repair.
We use mostly Senco and our sales guy repairs our stuff if needed when
he delivers nails. An O ring replacement might cost us a few dollars
but a broken piston (very rare) might cost more than the gun is worth,
depending on the gun.
Mike O.
This problem is usually caused by a bad cylinder sleeve seal, debris
embedded in the cylinder sleeve seal, or a bad head valve (which presses
against the cylinder sleeve seal). Air will leak past the seal and pass out
through the exhaust port. Often it will slowly push the piston down if there
are no nails in the magazine. Exhamine the sleeve seal carefully for damage.
If it is in good shape, the problem is usually with the head valve assembly.
Try pushing it in and out with your thumbs to see if it moves freely.
